the tip of my finger reachs 7'6", i'm right at 6' tall. jumping 30" would put my finger on the rim. i was able to get the middle of my palm on the rim, which would mean i was jumping about 32 inches at least, and could dunk a tennis ball.
I never dunked a basketball.
your wingspan comes in to play a lot, mine is 5'11" and i can't palm the ball.

I'm 5'11" with a 23 inch vert, 5'11" wingspan, and can't palm the ball. I have dunked at the LSU UREC. Seriously, are you people retarded or what? I am very aware that doesn't add up to 10 feet, but you don't dunk off your vert anyway.

No, rofl. I can dunk probably once every ten or so tries. I jump terribly off two feet and really well off of one while on the run.

I wouldn't expect a full blown retard to be able to read or comprehend what I am saying.

you mean at least 36"? that would get your wrist at the rim, which is about what is needed to dunk, especially if you can't palm it.

If you aren't throwing the ball down through the rim it ain't really a dunk. If you have to run without dribbling across the court it ain't really a dunk either.

No shite. Is there any other way to dunk a basketball?

You are on a roll, captain obvious. I would dribble from about 12-15 feet out and pick up my dribble when I got close to the goal.

Some people try to just slip the ball over the rim like and want to call it a dunk. When that is more just like a layup. A one handed dunk really needs to have your wrist atleast several inches over the rim.

I don't know about SEVERAL inches

If you can throw the ball downward through the hoop, it's a dunk.

Did a search to see if this was posted, and saw the debate over what height and vertical is needed to dunk. I will steer clear of that argument as one's arm length is a variable that must be accounted for that is independent of one's height. Perhaps a better way of answering this would be to add one's vertical to their reach with their arm extended above their head and subtract this from 10ft. + the additional determined amount needed to dunk. Although a correction factor may be needed if the person attempting the dunk is not fully vertical, this would seemingly approximate a real attempt.

But, to the reason I posted.

Speaking specifically on this guy, Jacob Tucker.

I read that his flat vertical is 45 inches, and his running vertical is 50 inches.

The 50 inch is legit if the video of him hitting his head is true, and his height of 5 ft. 10 is true.

Here's why: A ten foot rim is 120 in. A 5 10 man is 70 in. 120-70=.........50 inches.

I will link the clip in a bit.
This guy's ups during the gametime dunks are just downright nasty!

As for DudeofLSU in this thread...

I was 5-10 in hs with a 33 in standing vertical and could easily dunk...along with a billion other people

What the hell is this dude tryin to argue that someone 5-11 with a 36 in vertical cant dunk
