how would they enforce that? (without getting into labor laws)
to make that ruling means you are putting conditions on their employment as refs, making them employees and not independent contractors
do they stop HS refs from working travel ball, college ball, etc.? if not then how could they stop them from working with the "other" association
very easily assignment secretary can black ball you and not assign you games..

I don't know for sure that this is just about Curtis and Evangel and football. I noticed recently that last year's (2015) 1A All State baseball team was 100%, all 17 players from private schools, and softball had 1 girl from a public school. In'14 baseball had 1 public school player and softball had 3. Haven't seen this year's, but that's pretty unbalanced.I think 1A and 2A is where the problem is, regardless of sport.

Before that, it was all independent referee/umpire associations, and each district generally was responsible for their own contract.
how long ago was that?
since 1997(at least for football) referee associations were local but not by district.....
the suburban and rural publics will be fine... it's the inner city ones that will be screwed if privates bolt..
which they will likely not.

one would not be able to officiate in both groups...

If official can only be a part of one association or the other, they will choose the one that pays best... Then the LHSOA, LHSAA, and principals will have to vote to pay more so they have enough officials. The cycle continues...
So the public principals better be ready to pony up some more game fees to keep officials. Isn't their unwillingness to pay officials part of the reason they almost went on strike last year?

There was an offer on the table to split small schools. People would rather watch the whole thing burn than give a little.

So today's vote means 14 champions in every sport? Man. I grew up and played HS sports in Texas, and I just can't wrap my brain around the way HS sports are here.

Not really sure... but as someone else stated, they just black ball you. No assignments effectively limits you to calling in one association.

It's double digits, but I don't think it's 14.

MY biggest concern is whats going to happen in 5-10 years to the 3a on up quality public sports programs. If they are forced to stay within the LHSAA and the privates go scorched earth for a few years, will those programs suffer to a point where they are on the level of those who have forced this issue? Some will obviously be able to withstand the loss of revenue and prestige but some will not especially with the less popular sports.

I think the smaller privates are going to stay put. A lot of them like easier competition so they will just stay and play 5 decent teams for the state championship.

one of the loudest complainers about official pay is a private school... just saying...

they are most likely to leave

I don't think a new association officially happens

depends on the program... the good ones with community support will keep their athletes.
honestly... i don't think we'll suffer...
but the rest of 8-5A might get picked clean

Does anyone know how Mississippi officials handle it?
Are MAIS and MHSAA officials handled under the same labor union or association? Are there separate officials for each association?

Anyone know if that list is going to be released on who still voted to keep the split?

I think it is more the small schools in general, not just the privates. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Its pretty obvious that you guys have the community and support structure to continue ascending but as you stated, what happens to your competition is the real issue.
Id hate to see programs like Chalmette suffer because those surrounding them cant field anything worthwhile or worse, watch as they slowly close down certain sports
