there are only 15 "large" privates in LA
I understand, but I have heard a lot of the coaches of the Bs and Cs that are public, voice concerns. A class B public school isn't exactly drawing in big numbers to watch a baseball game. Lets assume you are one of the better ones and you draw an average of 75 fans a game...@ $6 each. That is $450, now take a two umpire crew with travel as it is right now, half of that is going to officials. You still have to pay for uniforms and equipment and field maintenance.. etc.

Are MAIS and MHSAA officials handled under the same labor union or association? Are there separate officials for each association?
Each association handles their own officials through assigning secretaries. However some officials work for both.

Sulphur said they can't even accommodate the amount of games with so many titles.
Right they did say they couldn't handle that many championships on consecutive weekends.
That's just the tip of the iceberg in regards to championships. Think about football and basketball. The Superdome is already breaking even or losing money, McNeese isn't going to take that kind of a loss for basketball. The championships are going to be played at crappy facilities because no one is going to sponsor all that shite.

this will very likely be the end of the superdome classic

Nobody is leaving LHSAA. Ruling is not what's best but it's time to move on. For those worried abt the kids, they don't care abt split. They just want to play games and the number of State Titles only increases their chance to win one. Other venues will accommodate the new changes if those now refuse. Cajundome was best thing ever for Basketball, maybe they take back over. Plenty of nice Baseball/Softball venues around the State to play. There used to be separate venues for Baseball so it's something that had been done in past. Football (which is truly all LHSAA worries abt) will be tough. Use of Superdome is costly, outdoor venues would be tricky in Louisiana in December.

I think the smaller privates are going to stay put. A lot of them like easier competition so they will just stay and play 5 decent teams for the state championship.
I know coaches who coach at lower classification private schools and they are pissed about the split. No one feels like the playoffs represents a true champion. This is absolutely pathetic and it is the end of the LHSAA as we know it. Give it one school year and the private/catholic schools will be out, then the principals of the public schools will see what a mess they have created. I feel sorry for the larger public schools who don't want the split. Schools like Mandeville, Zachary, Woodlawn, etc do not want the split. Don't be surprised if the select schools form a new association but will take any school that wants to be in. Some public schools will leave the LHSAA. Have fun Many and Winfield playing each other 10 times a year

You do realize that it will cost the LHSAA money to get these places. Even if they are donated, it still costs money. And since every state championship is now double, the money the LHSAA has, and the sponsorship will thin out. ESPECIALLY the sponsorship money in this economy.

So, can anyone give aa cliff notes of what they did?
Posted on 6/8/16 at 4:32 pm to Methuselah
Yes. Public school principals think privates recruit. They want their own trophies. Have voted to split playoffs but want to continue to play privates in regular season so they can make money. Privates are pissed. LHSAA is f'ed.

So, no change from the status quo during today's meetings?
Posted on 6/8/16 at 4:44 pm to Andy Bernard
Ah well. Seems like they've been hammering at this thing for about 30 years now.
My take is that if it is in the self interest for the privates to split they will. If it's not they won't.

Cant wait to see what happens when the privates do leave and large, community based public schools want to follow. Also, it'll be interesting to see how much sponsorship money the LHSAA gets now. And where they will field those championship games?

Pretty much...
This should not be an issue in Louisiana. Public schools gonna public school though.

@TreSwilling: @rwalkeradvocate wow, that sucks. All that's doing is watering down the state's competition.

This is the interesting thing about this whole thing...as for privates I'd bet my paycheck they had a split plan going into this meeting and I bet they'll start working it tomorrow.
If places like West Monroe, Acadiana, Zachary, Mandeville, etc want to join the privates and push to get it done....well then the people that started this whole split mess (looking at you Winnfield) will be left with egg on their face and no money to clean it off.

This is the third or fourth time this has been brought back to the LHSAA from the Executive Board to try and fix it. Each time the measures are expanded, and each time they win, although each margin has been smaller and smaller.
Eddie Bonine is in a terrible position, he's been fighting to heal this, thus the constant revotes. He was hired to fix the LHSAA, and the public school principals are determined to shove it in his face. He keeps trying to broker compromises, and each time the proposals get more outlandish.
