Cause it’s the same as comparing pujols and trouts career HR as evidence of pujols is better. Career WAR is accumulated too. And don’t say “it’s not his fault he was in the league @19”. I’m not giving him $400 mil because he developed quicker than others then got passed up.
Do you even “what have you done for me lately, Eddie”?

Haper has only had(i say that lightly) one season above a 5 in WAR. That one season is because he had a WAR of 10(!) . Other than 2015 hes averaged 2.7 per. If you put that average in for his 2015 year hes at a WAR of 21.

I think Machado gets more money but I don’t think either one gets 400 million. If Harper doesn’t get hot in the next two months he probably still gets 300 million.

Machado will be an interesting benchmark for Harper. Machado is having a better 2018, and based on oWAR, Machado's worst season since 2015 is still almost a full point higher than two of Harper's 4 seasons. However, Harper's 2015 MVP season is nearly better than Machado's best two oWAR seasons combined.

somewhere in your head your example makes sense

comparing two guys 12 years apart in age.

Let's revisit what I commented on:

I can think of seven players in his age group

Now you tell me, Eddie, how your example makes sense.

If you want to compare him to his peers, don't cheapen his greatness by selecting the sample size for the guys that developed at a slower pace than he did.

Furthermore, only 3 guys on that list have won an MVP. Trout, Bryant and.....Harper.

blah blah blah

since Harper broke into the league in 2012

WAR- 13th
RC+ 13th
HR- 18th
OPS- 11th

For years was the youngest player on the field. He's missed 25% of the games he's played in which makes those numbers even more jaw dropping.

again, consistent stellar numbers is a issue to me when deciding if hes the best player in the game. he hasn't done that.

Reason Id take a Bryant all day, every day over Harper.

you think kris bryant has had consistent, stellar numbers

Bryce Harper had an MVP at 22. Bryant didnt enter the league until he was 23.

It is severely understated what Bryce Harper has done at such a young age, and that he hasnt even entered his prime yet. A guy like Aaron Judge just won ROY last season at the same age Harper is now, 865 G into his career.

Harper is 25 and pacing 97/39/92 and leading the league in walks

His WAR is low cause their defensive metrics say he is bad.

And because you can’t accumulate WAR on the DL

I disagree. You remember what your body felt like from 18-25? And how different 25-32 was? And that was without the cumulative grind of several MLB seasons. I think it’s a pretty big risk, honestly. But one somebody will surely take cause he’s one of the few individuals,in baseball that puts asses in seats and eyes on the tv.

You keep making the point against giving a bunch of guaranteed money.
