how is it legal?... seems like offensive pass interference.
edit: appears welker hits talib at the same time the ball hits the WRs hands... so no PI.

I really wish the league would do something about these plays. To me they are more dangerous than some of the hits guys get fined for

Simultaneous with the receiver touching the ball?
I see your edit.

I'm not a fan of pick plays but I don't believe Welker would intentionally hurt a player.

Of course it was deliberate. Welker was clearly blocking on the play. Now, was Welker playing with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder against his former team? Probably.
Belichick had a problem with Wlker last year, but maybe he should have made a priority to keep Welter, because Tom Brady didn't have many weapons once Gronk got hurt.

It wasnt a pick play. It was a typical block. The ball had made contact with the receiver

He was a little early, but I think Welker's sole intention was to block Talib so Thomas could break free. Nothing malicious about it.

Me either. I've got a problem with all the blocking downfield that hardly ever gets called these days. Makes playing defense almost impossible.
Believe it or not, not everybody wants to see records broke every year and Madden type numbers from half the Qbs in the league

Bill did say that was the play of the game and I agree. Pats defense was on their last limb and that was it.

Yeah this reeks of sour grapes on Belichicks part
Also, re pick plays, Gus uses them at Auburn and I expect rule changes to be made during the offseason to limit them.

@DonteStallworth: I have nothing but love and respect for Bill Belichick, but he's absolutely wrong about Wes Welker's hit on Aqib Talib... and he knows it.

I was at the game yesterday and I couldn't help but notice that a majority of Manning's throws were to wide open receivers. Of course there were a few deep throws he threw where the coverage was good.
Why are receivers running so wide open nowadays?

Welker just had 2 concussions in 4 weeks. He's also about 5'9", 190lbs. Is that who anyone would use as a hitman?

Because Welker is a thug.

Bill is just being spiteful. I'm sure someone has evidence of his offense running a pick play that results in a big collision.
Posted on 1/20/14 at 9:30 am to RollTide1987
Im with yall in that I hate seeing defenses becoming inept. I hope every damn team starts running them so the league does something about it. Defenses just dont stand much a chance under the current rules.

Bill knows it was intentional because he taped them practicing that play this week.
Posted on 1/20/14 at 9:36 am to undecided
Yea, it was deliberate, and payback is a bitch. Julian Edleman did the exact same thing on the drive before to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Therefore, we ran a pick play and Wes Welker proceeded to do the same thing to Aquib Talib.
