I'm at least trying to get a 1000 post. Seriously me and my boys have this conversation every 4 mos.( we are basketball heads). I always bring up Carmelo, and people say oh I forgot about him. I think anyone would be hard pressed to name a more COMPLETE player in the league right now.

Wildtigwrcat93, we were just trying to settle anargument. I could have started the thread just as easily. LeBron really is the only answer

That must be the easy answer.

He might be the most complete scorer, but he'd have to actually play defense and pass to be the most complete player.

I get this alot, I think he could play defense if he wanted( sad but true). As fas as passing goes leave that to the point guard. How many point guards come to mind when you think of the best player in the league?

So, did you think if Miami had Carmelo instead of Lebron would they be poppin bottles instead of Dalls?

other people are making arguments for other people (Kobe and Dirk). Then they say if they could pick anyone they would pick Lebron which contradicts their own argument.

I'm the exact opposite. I think Lebron is the best player in the league (i.e. he's the most talented, best in the regular season/early in the playoffs, his "A" game is better than anyone else's "A" game), but if I had to pick anyone (to win a championship next season [so not long term]) I'm picking Kobe or Dirk before him.

He doesn't actually do those things though. In order to be the most complete player he should excel in all areas, which he doesn't. It's not a matter of whether he could if he wanted to. FWIW Lebron is easily more versatile than him. And frick no the Heat wouldn't have beaten Dallas with Melo. They probably wouldn't have made the finals

Only versatile in that he can pass better than Melo. I honestly don't like lebron's game. His midrange game is inconsistent, He is not a good 3 point shooter. As we all saw during the finals if you take the lane from him you have a 6'8 160 lb point guard who cant create his own shot. Lets not even mention is inability or desire to play in the post.

I'll take Kobe over Lebron solely because Kobe is an assasin at the end of a game when needed. Lebron is more of a Magician with a disappearing act. Yes Kobe is older and slowing down but on last second shots he usually nails it.
