Why is that, because they lost two games? LSU might disagree.
And only one power 5 team finished with less than 2 losses. I forgot who it was...

A 4-team BCS would've been great. A committee is fine for larger tournaments like basketball, but when the top 4 is all you have and actual championship contenders are more likely to be left out, there needs to be a lot more objectivity than humans can provide.

A committee makes perfect sense in something like college basketball or baseball because of the sheer number of teams that play and get into the tournament, there is a large margin of error and large sample size. With CFB, there is such a limited amount of data and only 4 teams leave no margin of error. It is too much to except 13 (12 the last two years) humans to accurately get it right, even if they are 1 for 1 so far.

Yes, we all know and agree on this.

In a 2-team system.
No one would have cared if Alabama got in under a 4-team playoff.

Ohio State and Kansas both had one loss when the final BcS standings were released.

Simple answer 1/9/2012

2012 Florida would have been in, according to the BCS.
I doubt the committee would have put that Florida team that didn't win their division into the playoff. Would have been Notre Dame, Alabama, Oregon, and Kansas State.
And that is exactly why the committee is way better than the BCS. Florida was #3 because the previous #3 UGA lost to #2 Bama in the SEC CG, which Florida didn't have to play in because they lost to UGA. You should not benefit from finishing 2nd.

And if you want to use eye test, Florida was fricking terrible down the stretch. Should have lost to ULL.
I don't think eye test should matter, though. But still, Kansas State and Oregon would have gone.
ETA: Very good point about only benefiting from the division champ losing in the title game.

this is also my biggest concern if/when they go to 8 that teams that don't go to the CCG will move ahead of teams that lose the CCG.

I don't think the "eye" test is that big of a deal. It is not the only factor the committee uses and the BCS was 2/3 human polls which are worse than the committee because of their slavish devotion to the first poll. Humans can and do factor in SOS, wins and loses.

Which has zero to do with selecting four teams for a playoff.
