quote:
This one is sure to spark some controversy, but I stand in full support of the cumulative findings of this poll -- Nikola Jokic is a better basketball player now than Shaquille O'Neal ever was. That's not a knock on Shaq, an obvious all-time great and the next guy on this list. Jokic is just another level in terms of everything he brings and overall impact. Five straight years Jokic has finished either first or second in MVP voting; he won three of them and has been the best player in the world, unequivocally, for the last half decade. The championship he won with the Nuggets, sans a single All-Star teammate, is a greater accomplishment than any championship Shaq ever won alongside Kobe Bryant or Dwyane Wade. By the time Jokic's career is over, he will be largely regarded as the greatest big man to ever play.

Shaq should be higher than Duncan and Jokic.
Dude was finals MVP for the entirety of the 3-peat.
Sure Jokic is a more complete player (probably the most complete player the game has ever seen), but there has never been a more dominant player than prime Shaq this century.

Kobe at 6 makes the entire list invalid. I regret opening this thread.

Who would you put him ahead of, and be serious.

Above Duncan and in a debate with Curry.

You have Kobe above Shaq?

Sure do. I say that as an LSU fan and I hate the Lakers.

I absolutely despise the Lakers as well, but there's zero chance Kobe belongs outside the top 3.
The #1 spot comes down to which attribute you value more:
Lebron - Longevity
Steph - Scoring
Kobe - Mentality/Effort

Not according to the advanced analytics.

Horrendous list.
Iverson is a top 5 player this century. Period. Him being behind guys like Nash, Davis, Leonard, Doncic...etc, is criminal.
edit: top 5 HAS to be some variation of Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, Iverson, and Duncan. Its a lot of great players, but those 5 are not era dependent like many on this list.
Jokic would get abused on the defensive side of the floor playing against the centers of the 90s, for example.

Hakeem and Robinson are the only ones he wouldn't make look foolish when they're trying to guard him.

Lebron at 1 is a no brainer.
#2-6 is a tossup between Duncan, Shaq, Steph and Kobe. I'm fine with Steph at 2, but I can't get behind jokic being ahead of those other guys.

I have LeBron at 6 at best.

nope, but my point was that the top 5 I listed would be era proof. Obviously Jokic would be fine offensively in any era, but he would struggle on defense against the hyper athletic bigs of the 90s. He's not even a great defender now.
