You act like he had 5 seconds to line up the hit. It was a bang bang timing for fricks sake.
You’re going to have helmet contact on those types of hits all game long.
This why no one takes you guys seriously. Of course, Olave could rape and murder your daughter and you would still defend him. I just ask for consistency. If that happened to Olave, you would be crying for a targeting call. OSU will run a train on the Little Ten, then lose in the playoffs. SSDY.

On to the next game. UCF and Boise...can both these teams lose? Please?

Where is the UCF game? Started so late it's not on my guide anymore.

Not if they play anything like tonight they won't.
I know it's the first game of the season, but they didn't look good.

OSU is just Elite
They’re head and shoulders above the rest in the B1G.

He's not defenseless
You said just before this it was a bang bang play. Either it wasn’t a bang bang play or the receiver was defenseless.

What I’ve seen so far doesn’t seem elite to me. I’m sure they’ll get better but that defense doesn’t look very good

Here's a stat for you from last season. Iowa plays Indiana this weekend. Indiana had more plays of 30+ yards against OSU than Iowa gave up all season. Iowa has the national streak of holding all opponents under 25 points for the last 22 straight games.
My point is some BIG teams still play defense.
The Big Ten is still terrible outside of Ohio State. Wisky, Iowa, and PSU are decent but not great.
Here's a stat for you:
Teams in the Big Ten that have made the MNC or playoffs in the last 15 years:
1. Ohio State
Teams in the SEC:
1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Auburn
4. Florida
5. Georgia

Ohio State is 3rd in playoff wins.

quote:I mean I’ve gone back and watched it frame by frame, and I still don’t see any helmet to helmet contact from any angle. And the best evidence is his reaction, but he got rocked either way and his momentum quickly went from one direction to the other (then landed on his head). And you can definitely get stunned, even have a head injury, just by one’s brain being whipped from one direction to the other inside one’s an skull. I mean head banging can cause concussion and traumatic brain injury, so that type of hit could definitely do it.
Dude was knocked the frick out.
That said, after watching it, it was definitely possible. I just don’t think any angle shows clear contact. And when a player ducks into it, and there isn’t clear contact, should that be called? Obviously we’ve seen way less violent collisions called targeting, but usually there is at least one angle that shows clear contact.
I’m surprised a prime time game only had 3 angles, when usually it seems like there are many more.

Edit: Iowa is a good program and plays good hard nosed football but can never overcome.
Want to see some hitting in the trenches?
Watch a UW-Iowa game.
I recall some guys commenting about that during a game here in the past. "Damn, those baws are banging in there!"

quote:Defensively. But they are young and banged up, especially in the secondary, where they apparently had 3rd (and I’ve seen some OSU media say 4th) strung DBs in at times. Although I don’t trust Coombs after last season.
I know it's the first game of the season, but they didn't look good.
On offense though, they were averaging 18.2 yards per play in the 2nd half until that last drive where they were just running out the clock. Even against a poor defense, that’s pretty impressive, especially with a RS freshman in his first game on the road. That played 4 running backs in the first 3 drives, and their most experienced one was the worst.
They averaged 7.7 yards per rush, 8.9 yards before the last drive running out the clock, and their reviving corps is the best in the country. Stroud’s development is the big key though.
