I know what you're thinking...we already have Wood and Jackson in the bullpen. There is already back end depth with Turner, Jokisch, Beeler, Roach...but again, this is talent accumulation. If Gee is healthy, he's shown in the past that he can pitch. I don't hate the Cubs taking a chance on someone like this with the caveat being "expect nothing, hope for the best" considering their very good pitching coach.
This is not me wanting Gee, this is just me saying I would not be surprised at all if the Cubs found room for him.

yea wouldn't be against it, I just wonder with the glut we have of back end guys if they'd do it.

A major league source said the Cubs have contacted all of the 29 other teams seeking at least a mid-rotation-quality starter capable of falling in behind Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta in a Cubs’ playoff rotation – and that a potential deal with the pitching-rich Mets may have been derailed by slugging prospect Javy Baez’s recent hand injury....In addition to the Mets, the Cubs also have had multiple conversations with the Los Angeles Angels, sources say.

The Angels are contending and need pitching of their own. I dont see them parting with any of their guys

maybe i'm missing something from that article but they mention draft picks from this years draft. And I didn't think you could trade a draft pick until after the world series of the year they were drafted...which obviously would be of no consequence if we're talking about a trade for this year.
*because the reasoning was to prevent trea turner like trades so we couldn't even call them PTBNL, right?

I found this article which is a little more descriptive. LINK

I think it's a full year after they sign their contract

That's what they changed after the pads traded trea turner last year. they don't a player stuck on a team that's going to trade him (PTBNL) waiting for the time to come up that he can be traded.
quote:
Fangraphs’ Dave Cameron reports that Major League Baseball emailed all 30 teams today to announce that, effective following this year’s draft, players selected in the amateur draft will be permitted to be traded beginning the day after the conclusion of the World Series.
yea they shut down the PTBNL thing too
quote:
MLB has explicitly stated that any PTBNL must be eligible to be traded at the time the trade is agreed upon. In other words, draftees cannot be included as PTBNLs between their draft and the completion of the World Series.

I get the feeling that split was less than amicable.
I still like the guy alright, but he didn't waste any time taking shots at the cubs when he was traded to the white sox. How much of that is just cubs/sox banter, I can't say.

Bryant with 2 homers tonight already
The one he just hit looked so effortless and it was smoked

The guy that caught that one was pretty excited.

His friend probably made fun of him for bringing his glove and he was like "in your face, Bryan...I told you I would need it"

Great way to start a four game series. Bullpen continues to be absolute nails going 7 innings and allowing only 1 run.

Bryant smoked two dongs last night. Like Croacka said above, it's just so effortless.
There could be some not so awesome news coming on Dexter Fowler and Tsuyoshi Wada today. Both went down with injuries...Fowler sprained his ankle running the bases, stayed in the game to run and was immediately brought home by Bryant's HR. Wada had some sort of arm discomfort...from the radio broadcast it sounded like he was pointing to his bicep.
