Diamondbacks pitching stacked...

wait. Isn't that what everyone said about the Dodgers last year?

Seriously though. Diamondbacks making moves.

Luhnow needs to stay the course. Don't kill this farm system just to get a closer.

Given the Miller/Dbacks package do we still even want to think about a Fernandez trade? although if they wanted a former #1 pick, I'm willing to send Appel their way.

No way. I say move Obie to closer role. With his attitude problem, I think he would flourish.

Wouldn't hate it like I'm guessing most would but only if it wasn't expensive, and if the last week shows anything, the odds of any quality SP not getting overpaid are small

If Rane doesn't wanna pay for top talent he needs to sell the team.

Looks like everyone is wising up to what a bad pick began was.

Very expendable blue chip guy, think the pick will end up paying dividends.

Yup.

Yankees want VV so we might get Miller after all

Astros are more willing to move Vince Velasquez than Lance McCullers as you’d expect after last yr, but they wouldn’t part with VV happily.

Source: #Mariners close to acquiring Lind from #Brewers. Substantial progress late last night, per @jonmorosi.

Angels and Mariners are making moves while Houston seems to be just sitting on their hands.

Takes a high end product and a likely lower end minor league to pick up Lind? That's it while Houston has an enormous hole at 1B?

Astros are still trying to pry Ken Giles from phillies. If happens, deal would involve some of better prospects.

I get what you're saying, and had high expectations we would be one of the more active teams this week (today is typically the most active day in the winter meetings so def still can happen), but it's good to know there's been non stop reports of us being fairly aggressive the last month or so in talking to other teams and stuff so I don't think we are just sitting and waiting. Also, I don't think the Chapman mess is very helpful for the reliever market which is what we've been focusing on the most

Giles, Miller, or some of those Rays relievers are my most preferred option. Also would not expect to have some sort of deal that surprises everyone but who knows

The Yankees want Velasquez.

Velasquez for Betances straight up.

Do it Cashman

Yeah I'm a big fan of Bird actually. If they hold on to VV I hope he gets a shot at a bullpen spot next year since there likely won't be room in the rotation

I think I'd rather Storen for cheaper than give up Velasquez for Miller

No deal is better than a bad deal. I don't understand why you would consider trading VV or Lance. VV is a high Velo arm that could be used in middle relief. He's young and should get better. LANCE is a potential ace. He had a very high ceiling and he's cheap.

I never thought Bregman was likely to make it to Houston because of Correa. He was the best pick available at the time (always take your BPA) in a draft that was deeper than it was was top-heavy. I kind of expect he'll be out the door in this offseason's big trade.

I agree with this, though yesterday on 1045 ESPN BR, Bregs said the Stros asked him to work across the entire infield this offseason (SS, 2nd, and 3rd). I could see him potentially given a chance at 3rd, since he does have the arm for it, but I think the more likely outcome is that he will be a valuable trade piece. I still dont think he was a bad pick at all, especially since we still ended up snagging Daz and Tucker later on anyway.

They will hang onto him for a while, Bregman can be a back up plan if something happens with altuve or he could play third if they want to keep CC at short. I don't think they know what they will do with him but I can promise you they didn't draft him with intentions of him being a trade peice

Bregs may be the next Ben Zobrist, even though Alex is not a switch hitter.
