He was despised by the old school regime, but for better or worse, he changed the game forever, and he brought the Astros a WS championship.
I feared he would mirror Beane and that ownership would only seek bottom dollar and bargain bins
The Verlander signing changed everything in my eyes. He will always be owed a debt of gratitude from me.
I do think his days in baseball are likely done

Sources: The Astros informed their full-time employees today that the team is enacting layoffs and furloughs. It's unclear at this point how many employees will be impacted and in which departments.

This will probably be the case for almost all of the league.

The offseason will get much nastier than that unfortunately
The entire 2021 season could be in jeopardy.
Might be looking at a 30 team playoff starting in September. LOL
OT- Does Joe Kelly still play for the Dodgers?

Nonetheless, the Astros will still be singularly vilified for it.

I thought that neither side had any leverage for a work stoppage for the ‘21 season and the ‘22 season was the one that was assuredly not to be played?

I guess Covid is to blame

Many people are saying it’s the most illegitimate title ever! They didn’t have to play a single game in front of an opposing crowd

Rumors: Springer, Paxton, Didi
I guess he really has put his house on the market.

Report: Springer "does not want to return" to Astros
Oct. 27: No matter what happens from this point, Springer has made himself an icon in Astros franchise history with stellar postseason performances and dynamic regular-season play. But while re-signing Springer would figure to be one of Houston's top offseason goals, it's possible that the outfielder does not feel the same way about returning.
ESPN 97.5 Houston's Patrick Creighton reports that the free-agent-to-be "does not want to return to the Astros," which would obviously be a huge loss for a Houston club that will already be without Justin Verlander in 2021 as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Fellow position players Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick are also impending free agents.
Creighton's report has not been confirmed by other sources, and obviously only Springer truly knows his desires when it comes to staying with the only team he's known or moving on. But rumors of him looking to other clubs certainly qualifies as encouraging news for clubs like the Mets, Red Sox and others who figure to be bidders for one of the top offensive players in this year's free-agent market.

If Springer decides he does not want to be in Houston (and I am sure if they paid him the most he wouldn't care then), signing Brantley and locking in Correa would be acceptable to keep the core players here. Honestly, they were going to lose someone at least if not more than a couple to be realistic.

Never heard of the Patrick Crieghton fellow, and he could be and very likely is correct about Springer not wanting to return, but holy shite is that guy a complete loser. His twitter page is a disaster.

Predicting qualifying offers.
Apparently they think Brantley will accept an $18.9M 1-year QO... I wouldn't be surprised if the Astros try to sign him for more years at less money per year.

Michael Brantley, OF/DH, Astros
Two winters ago, Cleveland was almost universally panned for not extending a qualifying offer to Brantley, since he'd rebounded from injury to post a strong 2018 (.309/.364/.468) for a team that desperately needed outfield offense. In two years as an Astro, Brantley has hit a strong .309/.370/.497. In two years without him, Cleveland has had the second-worst outfield offense in baseball. Houston might not want to make the same mistake, and given that its entire starting outfield of Springer, Brantley and Josh Reddick are free agents, it'll want to make sure it keeps at least one veteran bat.
Prediction: Received and accepted

My only question with Brantley is how much he can play the outfield now. If he’s only like an 80 game or so outfield guy that causes some problems assuming Yordan is healthy. I would love to keep Brantley at like 2/25 or something though if Springer is gone. Sign or trade for a defensive CF

While Brantley probably wants a multi year deal..The QO is above his market value by a couple million..I would expect him to take it. I would be on board with it. He is worth paying the premium for, especially if only for 1 year.

The Astros placed Roberto Osuna on outright waivers, per sources. Osuna, who barely pitched in 2020 because of an elbow injury, was expected to make ~$10 million in '21 through arbitration.
Presuming he clears waivers and elects free agency, it's basically an early non-tender.

That was a question when we first signed him, but he has proven to be more than serviceable, esp in our LF
As you point out, a healthy Yed is possibly even an occasional LFer, depending on the park.
We just paid Reddick 13 M for 4 years for 1 year of production, so Brantley's value IMO is near 2 yrs for 30 M
We have to have his bat to take next year serious

TYFYS and good luck with recovery Bob

Brantley is fine defensively in LF, more of a question of durability for me if he’s out there every day for the next year or 2 years. He looked very uncomfortable running around in the Tampa series. If we think he can handle the same amount of games out there as he has been then they should absolutely try to keep him (assuming Springer is gone)
