The cost of Q was pretty rich for me but I'll say that's the kind of deal I'd prefer vs a rental. The prospect cost is enormous but if we're looking at a multi year run...a Q, Stroman or Gray trade gets us very good pitchers that slot in for several years.

And I know DAT had gotten down on Quintana but in the sense of a multi season playoff run, he was one of the best bets out there based on his history. Low to mid 3s era, 200 innings each year and no injury history as opposed to Gray, Cole or Stroman.

Damn, I have a hard time justifying a big haul for a rental reliever. The dodgers with Britton and Jansen is terrifying.

I have a hard time justifying a big haul for a reliever. I've cooled on Brad Hand for that reason now that he's a hot commodity. Remember Will Smith from the Brewers to the Giants last year cost a top 50 prospect and then some. Giving up highly ranked prospects for guys who pitch 1 inning at a time isn't thrilling to me. That's why I'd kind of like to offer a package deal for Gray and Doolite. It might mean a lower prospect cost per player going about it that way vs going after each player individually

How about Beltran's 11 HRs, does that do anything for ya?

Since we're probably looking at the move taking place close to deadline, I've spent more time revisiting the alleged/proposed Astros/White Sox discussions this winter.

Does anyone remember details? I recall Bregman being the hangup, but surely there was more to it than that. What was the rest of the package?

Beltran is not even a league average player. Factor in inability to play defense and very slow footspeed....he's really got no business getting meaningful at bats.

I agree. I was hoping he'd hit .280-.290 this season, but knew that was a bit of a stretch. Either way, he earns his check just being a mentor to the young core.

Based on what Boston dealt my guess is Chicago wanted Bregman Martes Fisher and a lower level guy or two. You aren't going to find exactly what the Astros offered anywhere out there though

Colby Rasmus has decided to "step away" from game, placed on restricted list by #Rays, not expected to return this season

Didn't something similar happen with Colby last year?

Not really for a 40 yr old who hit 30 last year.

Bregman has 8, not that far off.

Astros lineup has been something historic
quote:

Over the past 30 days, the Astros as a team have combined for a 153 wRC+, which is incidentally right where you find Paul Goldschmidt. It’s been a month of a team of Paul Goldschmidts.

I'm surprised Martes and/or Fisher weren't included

Or are they not eligible for his list since they've played with the big league club a little?

I could care less how old he is.

The 2018 season does not exist.

But the 2017 season does and he's been one of the 6 most unproductive players in all of baseball with a bat in his hands this year.
