Yep, read another piece that said a scout thought Wagner is giving off Max Muncy vibes. I wouldn't mind a few 5 WAR seasons.

It's tricky in that we need to sign another proven bat but we also don't want to block a Diaz, Wagner, Dirden or whoever is ready this year to be an impact player.
I think Crane wants someone like Contreras or Abreu, and at least the former can play 1B/C while Abreu is limited although a more reliable bat IMO.

There are more holes here than people realize. Including the GM position.

Why would that ever be considered? Dude's a gold glove (even if he hasn't won one) defender at third.
Maybe in 10 years.

The beauty of it is that we are not losing any piece that leaves us unable to win the division or the whole damn thing
It gives us the luxury of finding pieces within until the trade deadline, if necessary
I'm hoping Brantley does a team deal. We can manage the OF until Gilbert gets here on the fast track. I think they'll give Lee another chance at C
1B is where they really need something to work. Not sure if they want to take the chance that the farm has that piece.

They were willing to gamble on the farm for CF, and while it wasn't a slam dunk like Pena at SS, it still worked in the end.
I think between Yainer and Hensley they could give it a go and see what happens. I don't see Matijevic making an impact, he seems like AAAA player to me unfortunately.

They will bring in outside help for one of the LF or 1B spots I think, ideally one that can play both. And I’m sure that player would DH a fair amount too. If they’re going to continue to play Maldonado 60-70% of the time then they should just roll with Lee/Diaz as the backup catcher and get Diaz some DH and 1B ABs too

I think your starting position player roster next year is something like
Maldonado
Lee
Diaz
(New Guy)
Altuve
Pena
Bregman
Hensley
Alvarez
McCormick
Meyers
Tucker
Dubon
If they want to add 2 new position players (or bring back a Yuli/Brantley/Diaz) there’s a few candidates to knock off that roster obviously

I'm hoping they bring back Brantley and add a first baseman, whether that's going big on Rizzo, a short deal for Abreu or Belt, or bringing back Mancini.
Or if they do bring JV back, trade for Christian Walker since we'll be up to 7 SPs.
Need to figure out JV, Yuli, and Brantley before the rest of the pieces fall into place.

I’d like to have JV back as a security blanket and to keep him from someone else in the AL.
I’d also like to see Brantley back if the years are right. The talk about Yordan playing LF regularly makes me wonder if they’ll bring Brantley back, though, because they like to use DH as a half-day rest. Not sure they would want to use Brantley as a full time DH.
Outside of that, they need a first baseman bad.

Crane said they wanted to look at adding a bat with some pop.

Brantley as a mostly DH is EXACTLY what they need
If he accepts that minimized role, maybe he accepts a more team friendly deal
Can you imagine what our playoff lineup would have been if you inserted Brantley in our DH spot?
Talk about the abyss to nirvana

JV opted out. Should be interesting to see how much he's looking for and for how long.

Cards have been shuffled and dealt
We just don't know who's sitting where at the table, Hell, we don't even know who's dealing or sitting at the table.
Click coming back one year probably dependent on if he, Crane, and Baker can satisfy what each other want to do

No real surprise, I think he wants at least 3 with maybe mutual or player options for more.
I still expect him to be back and to retire as an Astro.

Welp, I guess that being paid $33M to rehab wasn’t fair value. If a person was ever going to take a club friendly deal, you’d think it would be him. Guess not.

He still might, he just wants more years.
