Sign Marte and a good late inning reliever and I would be quite pleased

Lots of talk we will look to trade a starter now with JV back. The consensus and obvious candidate is Odorizzi, but you would likely have to eat money and would get basically nothing in return.

Perhaps there’s a bad money for bad money type deal out there that could fill a utility infielder or CF role (Profar is one off the top of my head, SD could use rotation depth after last year but Profar was pretty bad last year)

What about trading Urquidy? You could get something meaningful for him in the way of prospects and/or a stopgap utility guy, and I think he’s a textbook example of someone who has more value to other clubs than the Astros at this point.

I don't like it.

We're swapping out Greinke for JV essentially... no reason to move someone else unless the deal just makes sense in a vacuum.

JV
McCullers
Frambaw
Urquidy
Garcia
Stinky

Just roll out a 6-man rotation to keep arms fresh. You know guys are likely to miss time throughout the season anyway so having 6 is a good place to be. Javier can start some games if you have a few injuries.

Yeah I think it only makes sense if you’re filling a hole on the major league team. I am certainly in favor of keeping all of them as long as Odorizzi isn’t gonna be a bitch about spending a lot of time in the bullpen.

We will obviously need all of them (and others) to make starts throughout the year and I’m in favor of any plan that helps our chances of having a healthy JV-Lance top two in October vs what we had this year

The 6 man rotation thing gets floated a lot but I don’t see it happening. It makes roster construction pretty tough unless you’re just willing to continuously shuttle relievers from AAA and I’m not sure we have that kind of depth in the bullpen

If JV returns close to his normal self, starting pitching, especially come playoff time, is a non-issue.

I honestly believe we could pick up one bona fide reliever and be set, if Graveman is signed also

Click should pick SS or CF and make a commitment to whichever option gives him the best return with a shorter term, because you likely have Pena and/or Meyers eventually panning out, with a potent enough lineup elsewhere to make up for the other.

For me, I'm wondering who steps up in the leadership category. Verlander will, but which position player. Not Altuve, Gurriel, or Brantley. Bregman and Maldonado have the personality for it, but only Bregman has the potential to do it with his stick.

I would prefer if it came from one of the Latin players. Maybe Marte could be that guy. Or Semien IDK

I think he is already one of the clubhouse leaders. He probably speaks up about things 2nd most after Carlos. He doesn't seem to take shite. He's willing to show a little personality with the media.

Bregman seems to be done with this kind of stuff. He's worried about his salsa, his race horse, his wife's clothing business, etc. Ever since the scandal, he hasn't said much. I don't think it's Reagan. I think he hasn't handled the scandal well.

Correa, when he signs a $341M lifetime deal Bobby Bonilla style.

Where will Javier fall in to the mix with pitching/potential trade pieces? Click has said a number of times that he sees Javier as a starting pitcher, which I totally agree with, but if we don't give him a place in our rotation than I feel like he is largely wasted in the regular season in our bullpen.

Would love to keep him because I think he has the stuff to be a stud, but feel like we could get a good return for him in a trade.

Step 1: Trade someone in A ball for Tony Kemp.
Step 2: Trade Tony Kemp and Christian Javier for Mike Trout.
Step 3: Profit.

tbh, I'd rather have Tony Kemp.

I appreciate that Crane paid for Verlander. I'll at least watch my Detroit Tiger playing for Houston every 5 days.

Go DetroitTorontoMiami!

He seems to me to be the play that makes total sense, but I really don't have a good read on what it will take to sign him

I’m guessing 3/4 years and at 16-20 mil per? Higher on the per year if it’s a 3 year deal. Could be a little scary if it’s a 4 year deal since he’s pretty reliant on his athleticism for value. I think he makes us much better next year though

4 years 70 mil or so seems about right

Would rather Crane throw that $70MM (and a lot more) at a joint Tucker/Alvarez extension.

I'd love that... but we have 4 more years of control each unless the new CBA changes things, so in theory there is room for a 3 or 4 year Marte deal AND extensions for both without overlap.
