Joe Espada has interviewed with the Mets and A's for their managerial openings.

Espada is a finalist for the Mets' opening.

quote:

The Mets have whittled their list of manager candidates down to three, inviting Buck Showalter, Joe Espada and Matt Quatraro for second-round interviews, a source told MLB.com on Sunday.

Showalter is supposedly the favorite, though.

quote:

Many within the industry consider Showalter the favorite for the job given his vast managerial experience, which dwarfs that of any other candidate.

Espada could be our manager in a year

Buck is the guy for the job. Just ask him.

Yeah I hope Espada doesn’t get one of these jobs and he can take over after this year. This seems like the last year where we’d be able to keep him as a bench coach though. Either gets promoted a year from now or he’s probably getting a job elsewhere

Speaking of done deals….

Fisher was the #37 overall pick in 2014. Dude is still on 28.

Correa apparently turned down a 10 year, $275 million dollar deal with Detroit

Yes, I heard 270

If he gets 6 at 200 from Astros, it could work, given that 4 for 70 should be a dead lock cinch for him in his next deal, barring injury, with an almost certainty he would get more, esp w inflation

I’ve also heard it could take 210+ and I don’t favor that amount. If so, Astros should go in a different direction

I don’t care how much they give him annually. I just wouldn’t want that contract to be longer than 5 years. With his injury history, he could be the next Carlos Lee minus 200 pounds. Lee was productive the first 3 years, fell off at year 4, bounced back some in year 5 and got traded in the middle of year 6. That’s why I haven’t been “give Correa whatever it takes.” His injury history scares me too much.

I agree with you.

I was fine giving him whatever dollar amount, but I ain't giving him 10 years. I'd give him 5, maybe 6 at the absolute max.

Fixed.

I'd go up to 7 guaranteed for Correa.

Or maybe get creative and give him an opt out after 5 so he can pull an A-Rod and go for another big deal while he's still relatively young and give the team an opt out after 7 if the injuries are piling up and then maybe mutual options for a 9th/10th year at the end.

I'd also appeal to his financial sensibilities and make it a lower base pay and much higher incentivized deal. Base salary is going to be taxed based on location of games played, so he'll be paying state income taxes all over the country, but incentives should be TX only so no state income taxes on any of that income. And make it a lower base with easy to obtain incentives that essentially bump his floor salary a good bit.

6 years, 200 million, opt out after year 2

If he doesn't like it, go crawl to NYY

Why do yall think Espada is some great coach? Have you ever heard him speak? I have. And I can see why he hasn't been hired to manage a team.
