Lance has the stuff to compete for a Cy Young. He lacks the health and consistency to actually do it.

Yea it’s not outrageous for LMJ to take another step forward.

He had a 3.16 and punched out 185 guys in 161 innings. Getting another year away from his TJ he was poised to have another monster year. Really really sucks he couldn’t break camp healthy

Lance is a very solid #2 on a contending team. He compared himself to one of the most dominant pitchers over the last 20 years, which is what I found most hilarious.

Would love nothing more than for Lance to be a Cy Young candidate, but most of the time I wish I could buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth.

No he didn’t he said he wanted to compete for a Cy with JV. He wasn’t saying he is JV lol

Yea baseball players think insanely highly of themselves, more at 6

eta: He was staff ace on a really good team last year, now he's dropped down to a solid number 2 on a contender?

The pro athletes who don’t have confidence in themselves are typically the good ones, agreed

If JV and Lance are both unable to log key innings, it will be the deaf nail to this season.

He was the staff ace out of necessity, not out of outright performance. I think its pretty fair to say that 2021 Lance doesn't quite match the level of typical aces of serious contending teams over the last 5 years.
And once Framber was playing, there was a period where it was very debatable which was the ace of the team.
Again, would love for LMJ to take a step forward, but I think most reasonable people on a contending team wouldn't be comfortable going in to a season with him as your #1.

Yup. The Cy Young Award was never winnable for Lance.

But he ended up being staff ace based on outright performance in his first full season back from TJ surgery. He was top 5-10 in nearly every major pitching category among qualifying AL pitchers.

The only reason anyone wouldn't feel comfortable about giving the ball to LMJ is because of his injury history, which is 100% reasonable but has nothing to do with his on-field performances.

AND he's shoved his arse off in the postseason on several occasions
