List is rigged just like the game results.

But disagree on Elway. For example, Elway's best passer rating season, he was 16 points ahead of the 16th ranked due in passer rating.

Just watching them play, Elway was better than Favre

My own personal rankings, I put Brady, Montana, Unitas in tier 1, Marino, Elway, Brees, Manning, Staubach in tier 2. Those 8 should be locked in and then put in 2 really old school guys like Graham and Baugh then call it a day

Yes but there’s really not much difference between Favre and Young as actual quarterbacks. Favre obviously had way better marketing and football guys like him bc he was a tough guy QB

he did win three mvp's though right?
He didn't play QB better than Brees, that's all that matters.

Name 1 person who was a voter who voted for Favre in those 3 seasons? That is my point, why would anyone care about an award he was voted too that no one knows who even voted.

Also, see 2009 voting, that's all you need to know to put zero stock into MVP awards.

Favre was never better in absolute terms, and he also wasn't as good as Brees based on the avg of his peers.

but he also played for teams with way more history than Brees-Saints.
So are we talking about the best QBs or most popular?

Favre was beloved.
I get you're talking about WHY he was voted, but these are all shite reasons. Whether he was loved and whether he played for a storied franchise mean absolutely nothing if we're ranking this as it should be, the best 10 QBs.

Brees should be top 3, behind only Montana and Brady

Some context, the voting was done in May of 2018

Makes sense

Drew just started being really good this year

Look Brees should have been on this list but thats a clown comment re: Elway and Staubach

, here come the nostalgia and grit comments.

Elway might be the most overrated great QB of all time while Brees is clearly the most underrated.

No it’s not . It hard to compare different decades but the list is legit

No. Elway dragged a bunch of okay Broncos teams to Super Bowls. When he had a good team and coach he won back to back titles even outside his prime.

I would agree Brees is somewhat underrated, especially after being left off this list.

He made on second team all pro despite playing during an era when no other all-timer made the list.

Did you read the list?

Yes. What all timer overlapped with Staubach?

It's not THAT hard.

You compare them based on how they played vs either the best of the best in that era, or vs the league average.

And no matter how you compare them, Brees will always come out as the better QB than Elway, it's really not close.

Elway was my favorite player growing up because of his toughness and the close calls, but he gets top 5/10 love that makes little to no sense.

Yay hyperbole

And I’m saying that as someone who agrees that Brees not being on this list is silly.

Ok, Elway comes out better than Brees at playing QB based on what?

It makes perfect sense actually, I explained why.

If we were actually ranking them out I wouldn’t complain if someone put Brees over Elway, but to act like it’s ridiculous that Elway made this list at all is bizarre unless someone just doesn’t remember him playing.

Where did this myth start?

Average defensive rank of the Broncos in the 3 seasons they lost in the SB was 7th.

Why do people act like he actually drug a shite team to Super Bowls?

yeah they are.

just like when the weak arguments are made about Brees playing the majority of his career indoors.

Manning did also.

the NFC is usually tougher to navigate than the AfC as well but that is a whole different angle

So the guy that will hold every QB record isn’t a top 10 QB. Par for the course for the NFL.

Who are your top 10 college QBs of all time?

Timmy Chang
Landry Jones
Graham Harrell
Luke Falk
Colt Brennan

Obviously thats half your top 10 right, those guys go without saying. Just look at their records

I think this is important to remember.

I know why Brees didn't make the list, just like I know why the others did. Staubach was a shoe in because they had to bridge the gap between Unitas and Montana.

This was their mandate:

quote:

But Brees was probably the victim of the same forces that kept other great active players off the team. With the mandate to select a team that represented the full 100-year history of the NFL, it was especially difficult for current players to make it, because those who played in much earlier eras had to be accounted for, while current players couldn't offer a complete career for consideration. The entire deliberation for the all-time team was a battle against recency bias: the belief that the players who dazzle us now are far superior to those who played earlier in the league's history.

Guys like Favre and Elway were national fan favorites and clearly great QBs, so they get in too.

Fact of the matter is Drew has never won any popularity contests, and that will always keep him underrated.
