DJ LeMahieu has been tearing up A ball the past few weeks....hitting over 300 and hasn't struck out in the past ten games....20-40 over that stretch. I know he's still probably a few years out, but if he keeps it up, he'll be one to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I had a boner when both of them first came up on the Cubs because they were both LSU products. They just really weren't that great.

But, make no mistake: the Cubs will continue being mediocre as long as they have the cumbersome contracts of Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, and Kosuke Fukudome. Until they shed those contracts and stop fooling themselves with the likes of guys like Darwin Barney and Micah Hoffpauir, they'll toe the year in and year out line of being the lovable losers.

Baseball-Reference only has D. J. in A+ ball for the Cubs at Daytona in 2010. Yes, he is hitting over .300, but he's slugging a paultry .378. That's too weak. He's only 21, but he needs to flash more power. If he can at least get on base and make the routine defensive plays, he'll be a decent backup. The Cubs have some Asian players at 2B and SS that they're pretty high on.
