The only way this is ever going to change is for some schools to start their own association. The LHSAA has essentially a monopoly on high school sports in this state, and they can do whatever they want.
They are just like the NCAA. They have forgotten that they work for the schools and not the other way around. Just like the NCAA, nothing will change until enough of the schools band together and remind the organization of this.

The one thing I don’t get is why anyone who plays QB would willingly try and play for coach salt considering he would like to run every play of every game

Well that is where his Dad found a job at, so the plan was to be there. I heard a interview with the kid yesterday and he said basically staying when his Dad got fired they couldn't afford the tuition so he had no option but to leave. These assholes are stealing this kids senior year from him. I am not a violent person at all, but everyone one of these guys needs to have the shite beat out of them.

The thing that gets me is they told him he could play if he went back to Vanderbilt. So you “broke” rules making you ineligible, but if you go back all is forgiven? No big deal?
Well people were bitching about taking his senior year away....

given everything that has been said by VC, I have a hard time believing the school would have really floated the bill for tuition. I know they said they would... their other statements seem to indicate otherwise.

They never release details, the schools can but almost never do

It will be an "internal, personnel issue."

So the kid wasnt considered "recruited " when his dad was an employee there, but the kid is now ineligible because his dad lost his employment and he didnt want to continue attending the PRIVATE school that fired his father?
Look at it this way. Because his dad was an employee I’m sure he got free or reduced tuition(not recruiting, right?) And now that his dad is not an employee, his parents are going to have to foot the bill. So parents move him to another district (and a public school) but naw, that’s recruiting because of a technicality.
So if the kid stayed, are they giving him free tuition? Because if they are, how is that not recruiting? If this kid was just a regular student do you think Vanderbilt gives two shits about him? And if they aren’t footing the bill, then who are they to dictate to this kid where he goes to school? Especially a public school in a different district and classification?
This whole thing stinks.

Elprez. Read the rules not a bonfire move
Looks like he arrived at Vc legally
Privates can offer tuition assistance.....within the rules
It's the CDs fault he is not eligible

Choupique, I know the rules.
Privates can offer tuition assistance. My point is if the school was no longer offering tuition assistance it’s absurd to tell a kid basically he’ll have to pay for his last year of eligibility. And effectively that’s what happened here.

Why cant we just let people do whatever the F they want so long as they arent hurting or stealing from anyone?
I understand if you wamt to investigate to make sure they arent misappropriating public funds when they hire parents and i tbink its fair to investigate that - but let the kids play.

Without a doubt, this is devastating on all accounts and unfortunately the student athlete pays the price. Of course the athlete should not wear a shirt and represent a school that he/she no longer will attend. Is this only about what shirt was worn? Or is this about improper domicile? It seems all of the violation information has not been reported, perhaps clarity on that part would be helpful!
A few years back a similar situation happened to a student athlete and she did not feel she could stay at the school. She transferred to another school where she would not be eligible to participate in athletics. She played by the rules and obviously her parents and coaches did as well! She wasn’t a highly recruited athlete, but she was a dedicated and passionate one and everyone understood and followed the rules. It doesn’t matter if you are a highly recruited athlete or simply a member of the team, all athletes should have to follow the same rules. Everyone knows the rules! A coach does not have the ability to say if an athlete will be eligible or not, following the rules will determine the athlete’s eligibility. However, a coach does have the ability to follow the rules, it is their job, and that applies to both sides of the playing field.
No one blames the athlete for wanting to leave.
Calling it a hardship to stay? That just isn't fair...
What does it cost to establish a separate residence? Probably more than tuition, if this was actually done.
What does it cost to "scout" your athlete all over the country? Probably more than tuition.
"Hardship" is just a smoke screen and not honest just like the move was not completely honest! That is most likely why the athlete is ineligible. The adults in his life apparently thought they could get around the rules.

Part of the reason for the split is .....people playing for schools outside their home attendance zone.

Let me make certain I get what you're intimating, sushi.
The split happened because, I presume, people who put their kids in private schools are somehow doing something wrong for not staying in their district and playing for the local public?
Since I live where I do, IF my kids wanted to play sports, to be good and proper and whatever other virtue the publics invent, they should have gone to East Jefferson, and nowhere else? (That's our district.) Neither of my kids played LHSAA sports, but my younger guy played lacrosse, and NOT at E.J.
Reading between the lines, that's certainly the way it sounds to me.
That sounds quite tyrannical, if you want to know the truth, if that were to ever come to pass. Enjoy football, play at the local public or you can't play. Is that what you're saying caused the split? Screw our educational choices if we have the money to pay tuition elsewhere, or want our kids to have better educational opportunities? OR, they can go, but they can't represent their chosen school because it hurts the publics' feelings and is somehow wrong or unfair?
Maybe I'm misreading your post, or your agenda.
