For everyone making negative comments about Denham Springs:
Yes, Denham does have a football team. Last season they went 7-2 in the regular season and were co-district champs with Central. They lost to Ruston in the final minutes of the game in the first round of the playoffs. So yes, Denham does have a football team.

St.Michael will kick arse next year. They have a beast QB in Jeremy Meyers, will get many D1 schollys. They have a beast OT in Ryan Zeller, already got a LAtech schooly. A good TE in Nick Scelfo. And don't forget that there entire offense from last year will be back this year. Everyone last year was either a JR. or Soph.

Not sure about the BR area, but I ready for HS football.
Ponchatoula should be even better this year. They made the playoffs for the first time in awhile and gave Brother Martin everything they wanted.

River Parishes in all classes. Curtis and Evangel in the lower classes. I am sure WM will be good from north LA. Anything else is a crap-shoot.
WM will be interesting. They have a new young QB that never looked really good (at QB) last season. He did look great returning kicks and catching passes though.
Their offensive coordinator left ,after not being allowed to call the plays in the state title game, and this is HUGE. He was a major part of the succes of WM last season.
WM travels to Mississippi for their spring game this year to face the 5A state champions.

Northshore is getting our revenge on Ponchy this year

They played 10 games. In those 10 games they played 3 teams with a winning record. They lost to all 3 of those teams. Their 7 wins all came against teams with losing records.

Central has 9 of 11 back on a great offense. but i think they lost the whole D. should be interesting in that district with catholic, central, denham, scotlandville, and zachary all together. Some really good games and big crowds

yea jackb, Central should have a nice team next year. With Briscoe back at QB and a new offensive coordinator, they should be very explosive on offense. And yes, all of the district games should be great. You have some of the best fan bases around in Denham Springs, Central and Zachary and all of these games should be exciting. It should be a great season.

One question. How are they co-champs with denham if they beat denham heads up?

5-5A Preview:
This is by far the strongest and most balanced this district has been in years. There are three teams that could legitimately make deep runs in the state playoffs in Central, Catholic, and Zachary. This is going to be an exciting district race and will be a good year for any football fan to tune in if they want good football.
Catholic: The Bears should have a rebound year after a 4-5 overall record last year and a second place finish in District. Zach Oliver should have a stronger year with a veteran receiving core. The defense should be strong, returning multiple starters at every level, but will have to deal with the departure of their DC Gerry Garidel.
Central: The Wildcats have a load of athletes coming back this year led by QB Will Briscoe. Chad Mahaffey, the former OC at Bastrop returns to the district to coordinate an explosive offense. The defense has to replace one of the area's elite players in Josh Johns. This is the side of the ball that might worry Wildcat fans, because the offense will be explosive once again.
Denham Springs: After a surprising campaign in 2008, Denham Springs returns this year with their confidence sky-high. The Jackets lose John Simon, their workhorse RB from last year, but their other RB (cant remember his name), who is a quicker back.
Live Oak: 4-5 (1-3) last year in 6-4A... should be a tough adjustment the first year in 5A, but I could see them getting 1-2 wins in district next year. Three returning all-district players (RB, LB, WR) from last year.
Scotlandville: Should have a strong year in district after a strong year last year. They were a very young team last year and should continue to give opposing defenses trouble with their spread offense. This team has a good number of athletes and should make another run for the playoffs.
Walker: The Wildcats come back this year a year older and could possibly get a W this year due to their experience. Do not know much about the team except that they were very young last year.
Zachary 5-4 (4-0) in district 6-4A, District Champions... Zachary is one of the most interesting teams to watch in the state of Louisiana. They boast one of the best coaching staffs in the state with Neil Weiner bringing over Gerry Garidel as DC, Clark Engemann as OC, and Chris Carrier as DBs coach. Zachary comes into the district as possibly the front runner. I do not know anything about their team as a whole, but I do know that Zachary will come ready to play.
District Prediction:
Catholic 5-1
Central 5-1
Zachary 5-1
Scotlandville 3-3
Denham Springs 2-4
Walker 1-5
Live Oak 0-6
I think that the shuffled staffs this year will play a huge role in the district race.
I think Zachary will have a good first year in the district, but I do not think the team will be able to beat both Catholic and Central.
All of this being said, I would not be surprised if four teams from this district made it to the playoffs.

clark is a good offensive coach. im sure wiener will still call the plays but clark knows the system and has been around it for 4 years. Central's O was very good last year, i think they are still missing a RB but they will be good again. What are the odds on walker winning a game this season?

Doug Dotson is the DC and does some of the special teams. He is a good coach and defense never gets the same attention as offense. Still won't take my bet on walker?
