How do NIL contracts pay out?

First: are they signed and legal contracts? Are they gentlemen's handshake agreements?
I would guess that there's a total dollar amount for the year agreed on in advance. Did I read that incentives weren't to be rewarded?
Does the scholar (snicker) athlete get one paycheck on the first day of school, of football practice or on attending his first class?
If he leaves in a snit after one week does he forfeit 51 weeks of pay? If he goes to jail, is his received moneys reduced accordingly ?
Does the NCAA have rules for all this stuff or do schools or conferences make their own rules as they decide what to do that suits them?

I think it's still the wild West, anything goes till some one complains or gets screwed and it becomes an issue
NCAA has zero power

If both parties are smart, then yes, they’re written contracts.
