re: How safe is Dan Campbells job in Detroit

They’re starting to realize he’s a complete fraud. Johnson was the key to their success and without him, Campbell is lost. He’s benefited from a really talented team the GM put together and Johnson had them winning despite Campbells ineptitude.
He’s a roided out meathead who thinks he’s still a player and is incapable of saying a sentence without half a dozen F bombs interspersed with nonsense. He wants to be the players buddy so he filled out his coaching staff with similar meathead, stupid former players. I guess he thought they would make good coaches since they played in the league. That’s just one example of how stupid he is.
He struck lightning in a bottle and was really lucky the last few years and he’s been riding that wave since. It’s been enough to stave off a real examination of his coaching ability and kept him from being criticized too much.
That bloom is off the rose now. He’s a total moron.

Who would have thought midway through the season that the Vikings and Lions would both be 8-8 now.

It's quite a fall. Some owners like Al Davis or Jerry Jones might have been less patient. To go from 15-2 and the 1 seed to most likely 8-9 is a huge fall

I think he is safe this season and maybe next.
But the amount of regression is alarming. They aren’t a terrible team, but they are likely out of the playoffs and not showing much potential for improvement next season with an aging qb. Lions have been historically bad for so long you’d hate to see them give up on a winning coach, but Campbell needs a decent bounce back next season. Let’s not forget Payton had some mediocre seasons in NO before the SB. Although he at least did reach the NFCC in year one.

He’s good. Needs to find a OC

Campbell isn't a complete fraud but he's not nearly as great as many thought a few years ago. He better find a real OC this offseason. As I said in the game thread he fricked up the Lions chances 2 years ago at the SB with crazy decisions.

Somebody lost their bet today

Some people seem to no remember the team we are talking about here. The Detroit lions. This used to be a miracle season for them

I took the lions under 10.5 wins

10 months ago he was Jesus. His job is safe for at LEAST another season, and possibly more given the Lions' history as perennial losers.

He's in danger of both 2026 and 2027 go to shite. He's responsible for 2 of the 3 Lions playoff wins since 1957, he's earned a cushion.

He’s in zero danger of losing his job. Anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty fricking stupid

They should fire him Monday. They won’t, but they should. And not because he deserves it, but it’s one of those “if you gotta do it eventually, do it immediately” things
He’s 100% coordinator dependent. He’s always been mediocre to poor at game management, as I’ve said previously, and now he doesn’t have his coordinators to save him.
He’ll be a good assistant head coach for some team in 2027

On one the hand the injury bit them pretty hard, especially on defense, but Dan really screwed the pooch hiring Morton for OC. On top of Holmes arrogance saying 'we're good' about any potential trade/signing. They need to upgrade the o-line and defense. It's time to stop messing and try to win now, Goff isn't getting any younger. I think Dan has another year before the seat gets hot.

100% agree

Their offense has mostly been fine outside of a couple games which just happens in the NFL. Yesterday they are playing a division opponent away that is frankly way better than their record if they had decent qb play. At the end of the day Goff is just an okay qb, give him a bad OL and they are going to regress. I don't see the issues with johnson/campbell that others do.
The Lions likely missed their SB shot, they will have to hit home runs in the draft/FA or this is likely just who they are.

Gotta give Goff a couple more seasons.

Schedule was brutal. At Rams, Ravens, KC, Philly. Also at Bengals and Commanders, which would have made the schedule even more absurd if they had Burrow and Daniels.
I believe Ragnow retired after the draft, which was a big blow.
Lost both coordinators.
Secondary was a M.A.S.H. unit for the second year in a row.
Also, there is no way you are going to sweep the division two years in a row. The Bears were probably going to be better. I figured the Pack would stay about the same, but they improved with Parsons and played well most of the season. The only factor that went in the Lions' favor is the Vikings declined, and they still swept the Lions with JJ and Brosmer.
