There shouldn't be OT in the regular season, but in the post season, they should play a full period. If it's still tied, play another. And so on.

TV doesn't have a double header to worry about at that point, so that argument becomes moot.

I don't think that this idea will ever gain traction until a Super Bowl is essentially decided by the coin toss.

You might want to check the stats on this.

people need to quite crying and quit the bs pc both teams need a possession. want to win? play defense. sudden death is great. every single play matters in all 3 phases of the game. thats how you separate a winner from a loser.

CFB OT > NFL OT

frick College football OT. LSU lost two games in triple OT in 2007 because of 38 points scored against us. It's just too damn easy to score from that close, whether it's a field goal or a TD. They need to move the ball out to the fifty where a defensive stop makes the FG an iffy proposition.

fixing a legitimate problem =/= pc

Your logic sucks anyway. If excellence in all three phases is needed to separate a winner from a loser, why do you leave out one team's offense and the other's defense?

I actually heard that the odds are not that lopsided with the NFL version.

One thing I thought of was - use statistics (say the last 5 years) to see what starting yard line gives teams exactly a 50/50 chance of scoring (or at least as close to that as you can get). Then give the team that wins the toss the ball on that yard line.

we argued about this on here a couple weeks ago.

The team that wins the toss wins 60% of the time, but only 30% of the time on the first possession. Once both teams get the ball, who won the toss no longer matters.

BTW. Green Bay won the toss today and lost.

We are talking about a tiebreaker. Both teams had 60 minutes to win the game and didn't. If your teams loses the toss, they need to play defense or STFU. The Cardinals did that today.

I don't understand the hate for the NFL Overtime. It requires teams to be proficient in every area of the game, and will exploit weaknesses of teams. The NFL Overtime is actually very fair and if you ask me, a little more fair than the college overtime. For instance, in college, the team that gets the ball second knows exactly what they need to tie/win a game, while the team that gets the ball first just tries to get the most points likely in a drive. In the NFL everyone knows exactly what you need at all times.

This does not happen by rule, only by circumstance. Both had 60 minutes to decide the game, one team;s D can't get a stop they need to STFU and go home.

No OT game is decided by the coin toss. If the team that wins the toss scores on the first possession the game is decided by the other team playing shitty defense.
