Compare it with the Cleveland Cavaliers from the same season. Report back.

I think the main point, whether he never was or not, is that if you look at all time NBA top 5 or 10 guys, Kobe probably has less seasons in the league as the clearcut best player.

What does that mean? Who knows, but I think it's a legit claim.

I'm not sure what it means either, but I don't think it means much. Its all about context. Many players who played with Jordan could have been the best in the league if they played in a different era (ex Hakeem). Kobe was sandwiched in between the end of Jordan, then Duncan and Shaq and than LBJ. Overall, he is still one of the 10 best players in NBA history imo.

Cleveland's is slightly better, whats your point?

ETA: I compared 05-06 rosters FWIW

Alien Test:

Aliens have invaded the planet. Their first inclination is to destroy the planet, but because they love basketball, they've offered us a deal. If we beat them in basketball, the planet is spared. If they beat us...smithereens.

And they want to beat us at our best, so they're letting us use their time machine to go back and get players from their primes. We can have 12 players on our roster.

Does Kobe Bryant make your roster? Remember the fate of the world is at stake.

I think his point is that CLE won 50 and lost in the 2nd round in 7 to the Pistons.

That's awesome.

Granted they're allowing us 12, but if the fate of our world is in play, I'm assuming our best few players are going 48 minutes LOL.

1. Cleveland's is not better. It has nobody on it as good as Lamar Odom or Caron Butler.

2. My point is that Lebron James, in his rookie season, had a higher VORP than Kobe Bryant in his very best year.

ETA: I still think the Lakers had a better roster than the Cavs in 05-06, though it is closer.

This is your first coaching mistake. Got to let those guys rest! It's like in Days of Thunder when Cole Trickle was able to make faster lap times by driving slower through the corners! (THAT JUST HAPPENED!)

That's a tough game. I think he just misses my roster, but, even if he did, I don't think he'd see time as my 12th man.

I'm well aware what his point was. One team played in the east, one played in the west. If you think that didn't make a massive difference back in 06, than you didn't watch alot of basketball

If my life depended on it, Michael ain't coming out of that game.

The big men though, I get that they would need rest.

Sure he does. Would he be a starter? No. But what SGs (besides MJ, of course) would u put before him?

Same goes if you think switching conferences would have netted LAL 50 wins and CLE 34.

Dwyane Wade.

And before anyone laughs, check the career numbers, nothing funny about it. Wade not only stacks up, but puts up better and more efficient numbers.

I'll take that guy.

1) Butler wasn't on the 05-06 team

2) Lets look at the three best players after Kobe/Lebron:

Who was better that year, Odom/Mihm/Smush or Hughs/Ilgauskus/Flip murray?

If you are being honest with yourself, you should know the answer.

I don't think you have to worry about traditional positions in that scenario. The GOATS are so versatile having a specific "2" on the floor at all times is pointless

They pulled the switch and everything got confusing. LAL won 45 in 06. They won 34 in 05.

Okay, let me rephrase then: How many pure, perimeter scorers would you take before Kobe (again, besides MJ)?

I agree.

Jordan '93
James '13
Olajuwon '94
Magic '87
Bird '84

...are getting most of the minutes. Though a lot of arguments can be made at the Center position.

I'm not saying things would have flipped exactly, but just because one team made it to the second round in the east, doesn't mean they are significantly better than a team that lost in the first round in the west.
