Watch out if Chris Johnson breaks the 2000 yard barrier...

Breaking 2000 yards rushing does not guarantee an MVP. Perfect example is Brees throwing for 5000 yards. Finishing 8-8 cost him an MVP. It will cost Johnson too. Johnson does have a good shot at Offensive POY though.

right now it would be in this order ... brees manning and johnson

Why? Because Favre lost tonight? Brees had shitty games against Buffalo and NYJ and CERTAINLY wasn't the reason they won.

Don't take that as me being anti Brees. I think he's sitting at 2 right now behind Peyton. Just saying a L shouldn't disqualify Favre. What Peyton has done this year with Garcon, Collie, and a new coach puts him at 1 imo.

Just because you have the best record doesn't mean you automatically have the MVP on your team, just sayin

I agree. I think Peyton is the MVP thus far. The question is, since the Colts will lock up homefield advantage will Peyton be penalized? Meaning if Favre and Brees play 2-3 more games and have superior numbers as well as if the Saints go undefeated while Sorgi drops a game or two will the undefeated season hand Brees the award?

If Johnson breaks the all-time single season record he might have a chance.

What Chris Johnson has been doing is more impressive then both IMO. I'm a Brees guy and think he is awesome and all that, but Johnson is like LT was a few years back. Just does it all and carries the entire team.

I agree. The Colts are undefeated without much of a running game, and with Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie as two of their top three receivers. They're winning solely on Peton's arm.

I do think that the Colts resting starters once they lock up home field could hurt his case though. It shouldn't, but if he's sitting and they lose while Brees is still lighting it up it will

I don't think it hurts him if they sit him and they lose. Just proves he's the reason they're winning. (Not that we didn't know that anyways)

I think it would be more the inactivity than anything else. If Manning sits while Brees throws for 300 and a few TDs it can't help his case

Nor should it, but voters won't remember that Brees had shitty games. They will look back at the Vikings loss to the Cardinals and say "hmm Brett threw 2 picks and cost his team the game"

Whatever Brees stats are in those games like Buffalo they will just remember the Saints won.

Not fair, but Brett could still win it MVP usually determined in December. Just unlikely if the Colts and Saints keep winning

I guess the argument never works in Brees favor. The guy throws for 5000 yards with people most consider no names, but basically is penalized because his kicker and defense suck.

This year he is leading the Saints with a more complete team, but suddenly the WRs are considered legit by the league. It is kind of bs IMO. I find it oh so convenient Meachem and Henderson are all the sudden considered big time WRs when Brees's MVP competition is Manning and he needs a legit argument.

A case can be made that Brees has been the best QB for the last 3-4 years. He finally has a team around him where he isn't the only one and his team can actually win and that counts against him unlike other people.

I wouldn't say Brett cost them the game, he wasn't playing defense

I'm not saying that either. Just saying the voters will hold Bretts bad game that was a loss against him more than they would Brees' bad games that were wins against him

this reminds me of the kobe bryant chris paul MVP race...

kobe put up stats on a barely better team, but that season's story was chris paul and him saving the franchise in NOLA. the lakers won a late season meeting and everyone made it the deciding factor.

if kobe doesn't win that MVP odds are he never wins one.

manning has the stats and reputation, but this season has been about what brees and the saints offense have done. brees has had three great seasons in a row to vault him into the conversation.
