re: Jon Jones retires before facing Aspinall

It's not like he has anything to prove at this point.
I don’t think people care about him proving himself had he retired after Stipe. But don’t drag the sport and the fans without the intent to fight Tom while saying shite like
“I’ll fight Tom only for FU money”. Then gets offered FU money only not accept.
“I need 6 months to prepare for Tom”. Then he’s spending time in Thailand sniffing some guy’s hair claiming “living my best life”.
100% he was angling for a fight vs Pereira. But that fell through when Big Ank beat Poatan at UFC 313. So behind closed doors, Jones was wanting to hold the belt and looking to fight anyone besides Tom. But the pressure from the MMA community reached a boiling point of with fight Tom or retire/get stripped. Dana couldn’t placate to Jon any longer and it’s good since the pressure from the fans finally got to him. Finally listening to the fans. At least the he can move along now and Aspinall fighting years is not wasted anymore.

Is he ducking?
I mean kind of, but he's both 37 and a natural LHW.

He's a gigantic POS. No one cares that he actually retired. We care because he wasted many months of prime Aspinall. We probably would have watched Tom fight twice by now.

Jones’ legacy is ducking, drugs, and crime. Everything he did in the octagon is overshadowed by this. He’s an awful “GOAT” and the UFC should stop promoting him as such.

MMA fighters either retire too early or way too late
once you fall off you fall off bad
That’s true for any fighter. Exhibit A: Roy Jones Jr.

Just Jon Jones doing Jon Jones things:
MMA Fighting Article
Re-enactment of that fateful night:
quote:
The Albuquerque Journal first reported that the charges stem from a car accident where a woman was found in the front passenger seat of one of the vehicles involved and she was “exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.”
The woman reportedly told police Jones was the driver of the vehicle, but he fled the scene on foot. She then called Jones on the phone, and a police service aide claimed the person on the phone, who they believed to be Jones, “appeared to be heavily intoxicated and made statements implying his capacity to employ lethal force through third parties.”
When a police officer spoke to Jones, he allegedly made “allusions to violence” as well but never answered directly when asked to identify himself.
quote:
The woman involved in the accident told police she allegedly drank alcohol and consumed mushrooms at Jones’ house and stated she needed to change clothes, but “her next recollection was being at the scene of a traffic accident.” She told police the last person she remembered driving her vehicle was Jones.
The police report states Jones called the woman’s phone a total of 13 times from the time of the crash until the next morning, and he also sent her text messages as well.

The only reason anyone is saying he is “ducking” Aspinall is because he didn’t retire immediately after Stipe
He is ducking Aspinall….that is why people are saying that he is ducking.

I get his perspective, but he’s duckin’ for sure.
Either that or he’s just done. He’s done this shite for a long time and maybe this training just isn’t going. I’m sure he knows his body well at this point.

I take it he was insinuating he could put a hit out on someone.

I kinda thought that but didn’t want to assume. I realize he was allegedly ‘impaired’ but that’s a crazy thing to say.

He is the one that said he would fight aspinall in the post fight speech. According to the ufc he asked for a large purse and they made it happen and he turned it down. Just glad it is finished. I would have liked to see the fight but apparently Jon didn’t want to risk his legacy fighting aspinall. Kinda sad though because a lot of legends risked theirs to fight a up and coming Jon jones.

I’m glad it’s over also. I respect Jones as a fighter but the way he has acted outside of the octagon really soured me on him. I love how he fought Stipe who basically had both feet out of the octagon and then decided to frick over everyone and everything because he didn’t want to fight the top heavyweight challenger.
His legacy would not have been tarnished had he lost to Aspinall and then retired.

Now get Tom vs Vookov for the title in November at MSG, then Poatan vs Tom in April.
Tom versus Gane and Volkov versus Poatan, then winner of Volkov/Poatan gets a title shot.
If Alex moves to HW he is leaving LHW on a loss. He doesn't deserve an immediate shot at Aspinall. He needs to establish himself. Reward his talent and history with a top HW to do that.

People would remember if he lost. It’s not worth the risk to his legacy to fight.
His legacy is solidified pretty firmly. And it doesn’t matter if he fought this one or not.

Albuquerque police release bodycam footage of Feb incident after Bones' attorney says Jon wasn't involved and was instead being unfairly targeted by police.
Cops roll up to car after accident, see somebody running away and a woman in the passenger seat, who has no pants on.
She tells them it's Jon that ran away, he was driving. So the cop calls Jon's cellphone and he sounds like he's wasted and rambles about conspiracy theory shite.
