So two South LA Catholic schools routinely hold kids back in 7-8th grade, get a doctor’s note, file for hardship hearings with the LHSAA (because that is the only way to regain that year of eligibility), and have the LHSAA hardship committee routinely grant the extra eligibility?
I don’t know of this happening anywhere, but if a doctor recommends it, then the hardship hearing will typically be a slam dunk (My assumption is that it is a psych doctor as opposed to med). As far as an extra year of eligibility, that technically isn’t happening as eligibility is 4 years and age specific (in terms of max). As long as they are of the proper age, then they will get 4 years...period. They will just be 19 (or closer to it) as opposed to 18.
Needless to say, that year makes a difference.
Again, I don’t know of this occurring, but having a psych doctor recommending it makes it totally plausible.

You’ve obviously never seen a hardship hearing.
For example, a few years back, there was a kid from Episcopal who immigrated from Africa - like war torn, Genocide Africa. Because of the difference i education systems, he entered American schools a year behind which made him 19 before September 1st of his senior year. Hardship denied.
You can win a hardship on a holdback but it is very difficult to do. And there is no school (especially a private school) that is “routinely” doing so and getting hardships granted.

actually his hardship may have been approved EXCEPT for the fact that he had already been granted one hardship waiver so that he could compete in soccer getting around home attendance zone requirements-because he would be ineligible his senior year due to being 19.
only 1 19 year old has been granted hardship since the 19 year old rule was put in place.
there was talk of altering the hold back rule because of a few schools(the most notable is a catholic school) that have a few kids that get the doctor waiver-although they have had very few if any the last couple of years.

I agree.

My post stated that they were held back, but NOT over the age restriction. You are posting about an entirely different scenario.

IIRC, it was a player at Covington that lobbied the Louisiana legislature to overcome the age restrictions back in the 90’s, the LHSSA clamped down on playing passed the age requirement in a big way and left virtually no loopholes.

Carencro plays some of the most disciplined line play I've seen in ages. Congrats to them. Very entertaining.

Is Kentwood and/or Lutcher considered Nola metro?
If so, it looks like 2009 was the last time that no team from the Nola metro area won it.

Neither of those are remotely "greater New Orleans."
