None of the really good Alabama teams are in 6A so that wouldn’t make any sense

It’s crazy how much difference a HS coach can make at a school. My HS was 1-10 when I was a Freshman. Coach was fired and they were in the playoffs the next season. State semifinals the following 2 years. It’s not like there was a sudden influx of talent.
. Coaching will be fine at Ponchy, they just lost a tone of talent and have a young team.

Correct I moved there in the summer of 1979. Jobs everywhere. The place is totally dependent on the oil field .

Supposedly they are playing a 6A from Alabama this year. But yeah, I don’t know if they will stay competitive with the old school philosophy.

Are you talking about Catholic High of BR not staying competitive??? They are they number 1 team in the state right now and are basically dominating all the sports. And I thought this junior and soph class was the one heavily recruited a few years ago?

I have no ties whatsoever to CHS. I know it’s a great academic school. But sports are heavily emphasized. Whether they are actively recruiting other players still or not, I know parents of kids who are great athletes who don’t go to the Catholic elementary/middle feeder schools who want to transfer their kids to Catholic so they are playing with the best. And this isn’t just football.

Catholic High isn’t going to ever be non competitive.

Douglass QB seemed legit.

But the center snapped the ball high all night long (they were in shotgun all night). QB kept having to jump up to catch it and it was throwing off his timing.

He had a few very pretty deep balls and every one of them had a miss communication with the receivers.

Their band, however, was legit

My Stepson is Chalmette’s QB1. Kid has never played a down at QB and last year he was a starter on the O line. Needless to say he has a lot of learning to do.

he made some throws and found some receivers that last year's QB couldn't... him starting in baseball really has helped him

but yeah about Douglass, they're one of the smallest schools in 4A, having just moved up, and we're one of the biggest in the state, and they probably couldn't get in as much practice as we could with the weather being what it has been, and last night you could tell

CHS is overrated this year. QB is mediocre & is going to be w/o the strong OL he had last year.

They need to fire the OC. Guy has no idea what he’s doing and the QB has regressed since Fertitta got booted. Just leaned on talent and a good defense to grind out close wins last year.

Fertitta did a good job protecting him his first year. He’s never going to be athletic, but that weakness will be exposed with a weak OL.

The defense is disorganized. Late getting lined up and out of position on most snaps.

Next week will catch a lot of people’s attention - not in a good way for Catholic.

The QB is a nice kid. But he was “given” the job. There was no true QB comp. He got ALL of the 1st team reps in 2021 Spring, Summer and Fall work. It was politics. I know this b/c I saw/watched every practice and HUDL session. He was not the QB that knew the most (field IQ) or was the most athletic (the previous 2 QBs — 2nd/3rd string — who are both gone) were.

He had great weapons to work with and had one of the best protection OL’s in the state last year —- yet was still less than 50% on completions. I kept all stats from last years games.

He had very good WRs and RBs. Just didn’t have a TE - or else they REALLY would’ve been a great offense. The offense was better under Fertitta

Who are they going to lose to? The top football program in Maryland who is often ranked nationally? Zachary p, who may be the states best overall team this year? UHS? The defending state champs and projected top team in D2? Some other top5 team? Maybe Catholic loses a few this year because the schedule is pretty tough, but I just cAnt imagine the being non competitive.

Catholic is a big unknown this year. Qb is inconsistent, Oline is rebuilt and still trying to figure it out, skill positions are great with a good mix of players.

Defense has some growing up to do up front but have great linebackers

DB is a big problem.. losing their best athlete on defense unnecessarily who’s also your best corner doesn’t help

They (Catholic) lost a TON of senior leadership. That’s going to be HUGE with a tough schedule ahead.

QB is not the problem. They have big issues with OL and DB. They have no depth at RB and the OC is not even close to where Fertita was. There’s a reason the QB looked better as a freshman than he does now
