I don't understand this relevance, really. I get it in college, sorta. You have a lot more choice. But in professional sports you just kinda take where you get drafted. To do anything else makes you look like an ungrateful shite. Elway looked like a shite when he did it, Eli looked like a shite when he did it. Take your millions, then if it really matters to you leave after your first contract.

I could be in the minority here with this opinion, but I'd much rather play for a franchise where I have a chance to win championships immediately, even if I grew up hating them, than go to the local team that's kinda shitty right now.

Huh? He has a legit opportunity to play for his hometown team, the team he has been rooting for since he was a child. It makes complete sense that he wants to play for them. ETA: It's not like he's trying to torpedo his draft stock to get to the 15 pick. Lakers pick #2.

I mean, if you can force your way to where you want to be, why not do it?

Right or wrong, you gotta remember they're thinking big, they're thinking Lonzo will come and and immediately be a good player. Again, not saying that's right. In that sense, going to LAL is the best possible landing spot because Lonzo would get credit for bringing them back to life...in LA, can't really beat that.

Because you look like an ungrateful shite? But that could just be my perception. Again, I could be in the minoroity.

And as an aside, the whole entitled angle doesn't seem like the most prudent given the marketing angle.

Elway had baseball to fall back on and the Colts were an all time dumpster fire at that moment.

Eli didn't have another sport to fall back on and the Chargers weren't that much worse off than the Giants at that time.

Cannot blame this lifelong Lakers fan for not wanting to play for the Celtics

Oh loosen up. I was trying to make a funny after the racial outrage of Adam Jones' traumatic experience in the bean town.

This. I don't get why some players have to be so insistent. Also, WTF would they be doing if the Lakers weren't even in a lottery slot? Demand to be traded to the Lakers? They are very fortunate that the lakers suck. Thankfully, the Lakers will continue to suck after.

Why care what outsiders think of you? You're basically saying you should put yourself in a worse spot(whether you agree or not, that's what they think/thought) just because of what outsiders think.

The team guys like Eli, Elway and possibly Lonzo are going to aren't going to hold it against them that they badly wanted to be on that team.

I just love how we have this perception that athletes just have to shut up and take the situation they are in without any personal decision

Umm he made a decision to use basketball as his livelihood.

I mean he does not have to play. It goes both ways LP.

Because you're trying to leverage your career into major revenue based upon your merchandise? And people's likelihood of buying your merch is predicated upon image?

and he can do what he wants for his career how he sees fit. He shouldn't have to just accept something if he wants to do something else. There's no problem with that

Yeah, I don't get not wanting to play for the Celtics. You're going to get great coaching, probably great development, you're in Boston, which is a great city, and you're playing for a marquee franchise.

Because this is the dumbass Ball family's way of not admitting that Fultz is a lot better than Lonzo. This way dumbass Lavar can say "Lonzo is a lot better than Fultz, we just didn't want to go to Boston."

I'm sure the Celtics couldn't care less that Ball won't work out for them. They're doing one of two things:

1. Draft Fultz
2. Trade pick

I honestly don't see how this hurts his image. He wants to play for the team he's been rooting for since he was a child. I think most sports fan understand that sentiment.

Right, and he's also likely making a decision to play for the Lakers be any means necessary, which is also his right. A team can draft him and not send him to LAL, but he can also do everything he needs to do to ensure it happens, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Well he can go play overseas, he can play in the NBA, he can sit out.

I am not complaining about him not working out for the Celtics. But to act like he has no choice in this is absurd, he knows the rules and the regulations of CBA.
