I got to cross it off my bucket list in 2011. Went to Thursday & Friday rounds. We set our chairs on the ropeline at 16 Thursday & 15 Friday. All I can say is this is the most incredible sports event I have ever attended, by far.
Extremely well coordinated, unbelievable access to players (I met Phil, Freddie, Steve Stricker, Tiger;s mom, and believe it or not, Emmett Smith). One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
Concessions are ridiculously cheap (not sure how many egg salad sandwiches I ate), but the gift shop items are more in line price-wise with what you would expect. I bought a "2011 Masters" flag for around $80 and had it framed in a shadow box for my office.
Walking the course was the best. All those scenes you have watched forever on TV are right before your eyes. Trust me, it's even better in person. Watched Jason Day practice putting Friday morning, then he came over and talked to us before he teed off. Also gave me his three practice putting balls, which I gave to my sons when I got home.
Oh, and best part of all? Didn't cost me a cent. Whole trip underwritten by my brother-in-law's company, including lodging and all meals outside the course. Like many people, we stayed in someone's home. (They left for the week and offered their home for rent. It was beautiful.)
Bottom line: sell the kids, borrow what you have to, and go. You will not be disappointed!

It is my goal in life to take my wife to two places:
1.) New Orleans and Baton Rouge for a UGA-LSU weekend
2.) The Masters

Did the Wednesday Practice round and Par-3 tournament last year. Would definitely recommend this for a first timer... That way you can bring your camera and take about 6 million pictures. We bought on Stub Hib and paid about $700 per. Get there as soon as it opens if you want to see Tiger. He does an early practice round with Freddy. Go buy your merch 1st thing or the lines will be insane in the afternoon. They have a deal where you can check it so you don't have to carry it around all day. Morning on the big course, then find a spot to post up on the Par 3 course where you can see 3or 4 holes. Was awesome last year. Arnie, Jack, Gary, Fuzzy, etc. Etc. Etc. All walked within 3 feet of us. You'll love it.
This is the best bet, but let me add a couple of thoughts:
All three practice rounds allow you to bring a camera.
If you REALLY want to go, there are passes for sale all up and down Washington Ave everyday. It's a matter of how much you want to go.
The place is unbelievable. This past year I went and everybody there was saying it was the best they had ever seen as far as the grounds.
If you only go once, you may forget a lot things, but you will never forget your day at Augusta National !!!
Good Luck !

I live nearby and have been many times.
Go to a practice round and you can bring your camera. Very relaxed atmosphere on Monday especially.
The concessions are incredibly cheap. You can eat a lunch of Sandwich, chips, beer, and a payday candy bar for about 10 bucks.

Have 4 of us going to the Tuesday practice round this year. Leaving from New Orleans. We are looking to hit different golf courses on the way there on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Anyone played the Robert Trent Jones courses in southern Alabama? Magnolia Grove or Grand National?
