Ya know..thats probably gonna happen any day now!

If I'm an NFL GM, heres my thought process on him.
1. I have no issues with him being gay. I am polished enough to handle the media and not make it a distraction. My head coach probably is as well. But do I know for sure that there is not 1 guy in my locker room that will mouth off and turn this into the type of story the media would LOVE to play out. That is a risk.
2. This is the first openly gay NFL player. There will almost certainly be others. The media coverage (and potential distraction) will be exponentially less for every gay player after the first. Its only really an issue one time in history for one single team. So why take the higher risk on Sam when you could just wait it out and take a gay player with much lower risk?

I'm sad that this thread is turning into a conversation about ESPN's bias and how this affects Sam's draft slot.
I, for one, am incredibly happy that any pro athlete can have the courage to come out. It's not easy to be a gay man in professional sports, and I'm proud of Michael Sam for making this announcement in spite of the historical bigotry, hypermasculinity and machoism of pro sports. I hope he gets as much support from players and fans around the league as he deserves.

Just try to appreciate that you were alive when this happened. If he gets drafted, and sees NFL action, it will be remembered as a watershed moment for many generations. This is something you can tell your grandkids about. First openly gay player. Sounds strange but neat to say

It helps that he is one hell of a player and not some bench scrub

Spot on. Especially for a 2nd or 3rd day guy.

Call me old fashion .. I don't like it

Smart move, im sure people in the interview process would have it figured out anyway with some of their insane questions and research

While he may have a rough time in the locker room or from fans, i would be surprised if he got negative attention from the media.

An idiot WILL say something. He will share a locker room and playing field with a ton of early 20's guys.
He will have to be ready for that.
I wonder if he had Clowney type potential if he would say anything?

Pretty sad our society has degenerated to the point where we are celebrating an athlete not for what he's done on the field but because he likes to suck dick.

If the dude can play then players will accept him

After the Riley Cooper fiasco last year, I highly doubt the Eagles take him, so this is not my concern.
Good for Sam, whatever makes him more comfortable with himself.
That said, I get extremely bothered when people who don't support homosexuality get attacked and labeled "bigots" or "intolerant" because of their beliefs.

This. It's not like he'd be the only gay player in the NFL, either.

If you don't support homosexual rights and equality you are an intolerant bigot.
Period.
Sorry man, just accept who you are. An uneducated, ignorant bigot who supports an outdated ideology given to him by someone from over 2,000 years ago when slaves and abuse of women were also openly allowed.
