Mets beat writer. That is an insane amount of $$. This is kind of a bizarre trade all around. I kind of like it for the Mariners though
Don’t really understand why the Mets are doing it

Roughly $60 mil headed Mets way in current incarnation of deal. Players, again, are Cano/Diaz for Bruce, Bautista, Swarzak, Dunn. Kelenic

@AnthonyDiComo: Said this last night on SNY, and have since heard it from multiple baseball people: the Cano talks signal the Mets are in full win-now mode. And they can't stop here, because Cano and Diaz alone don't make this team a winner.
It's going to be a very, very active offseason.

If that amount or anywhere near it is true, it's a no-brainer for the Mets if they're serious about competing. I'm more surprised about the money going back the other way. You would think that just a Diaz deal alone could have landed Kelenic and Dunn.

so do we know what is going to seattle?

Seems like the hold off is the inclusion of McNeil and that Kelenic/Dunn are a given. If it reaches a standstill, I could see them swapping out Dunn for a lesser prospect to make McNeil happen. Kelenic is the prize here.

I’m just not confident the Mets can compete next year at all. I should have said I understand the line of reasoning but don’t agree with it. And there were all the rumors of them looking at deals for Syndergaard which doesn’t jibe with wanting to compete but maybe those aren’t true.
I think Kelenic and Dunn isn’t a bad haul on it’s own for Diaz because I don’t think people are going nuts for deals for relievers anymore. I also like Kelenic a lot from what I’ve read/watched

I think if the deal actually happens, they're going to want to keep Syndergaard. Otherwise, it really doesn't make any sense. But they are the Mets with a rookie GM... so who really knows.
With the rise and importance in cost of relievers now, I kind of feel the opposite. Coming off his historic season along with the years of control, I think it may be little light on the return. That Cano contract really dampened what he could have brought back which makes it strange why they aren't marketing them separately. If they're going to eat 60 million, take back Bruce's and Swarzak's contracts, they shouldn't find it that difficult to try to sell him somewhere else. Eat 80 mil selling Cano elsewhere and get max value for Diaz.

I agree with you on packaging them and it doesn’t seem like they’ve waited long enough to have the market play out to see what they could really get for Diaz on his own. It will be interesting to see what the Mets do from here as they should still have money to spend if the rumored cash is true

Mariners trade Alex Colome to the White Sox. Jerry Dipoto is currently listening to offers for pieces of the venue formerly known as Safeco Field. Chairs, outfield grass, roof panels. Everything must go.

At this point, I can't see why they wouldn't flip Haniger. They could get a nice package for him.

Good luck with that.

Braves would clearly give up some of their top prospects for Haniger if he’s available. It seems likely he would be available since the Mariners are clearly in fire sale mode.

27 years old and controlled through the 2022 season. If you're going to give up top prospects, he's the kind of player to do it for.

Pretty incredible stat: the Mariners went 66-0 this year when Edwin Diaz entered with a lead, including 61-0 in his save chances. Diaz blew four saves, but the Mariners came back to win each of those games

@JonHeyman: Yan Gomes is being acquired by the #Nats. Gives them a nice catching combo with Suzuki. Minor League RF Daniel Johnson going the other way to #Indians . (sorry if you saw earlier that mentioned Michael Taylor; he's not involved)

Billy Hamilton no longer with the Reds. He was fun to watch but couldn't hit a slow pitch softball.

So Indians trade Mejia at the deadline bc he was blocked by Gomes and now deal Gomes? Who’s catching for them now?
Posted on 11/30/18 at 7:57 pm to UltimateHog
Gomes+Suzuki at 9m AAV is pretty nice. You could argue that's better than dealing for JTR, backing him up with a replacement level guy and dealing Robles.
Nats still need significant SP help. That 3-5 is so trash right now.
