It's what happens when players take the guaranteed money early on instead of betting on themselves. It's a shared risk though. This current extension works well for both parties as he was due to hit free agency at the age of 34. The Indians rewarded him with a raise. It's not what he deserves but he put himself in this predicament.

Carrasco's extension takes him off the trade market and means the #Indians will now be focused on moving Trevor Bauer or Corey Kluber.

And Jon the Moron has so screwed up the Rangers that we have NOTHING to get Kluber so he can pitch at home.

Maybe the Cardinals can make a deal. Or Houston. Just keep him away from the Plastic People (any Cali team).

Yeah this is much more high risk for Cleveland with his injury history than some of the other extensions they’ve signed. Still the amount of team friendly extensions they’ve signed seems high, I guess guys like Ramirez and Kluber didn’t have the huge prospect pedigree

I think that's it. I mean... if Jose Ramirez knew he was going to become JOSE RAMIREZ, I highly doubt he would have taken an extension.

We're not looking for a starter, just want a couple bullpen guys specifically a lefty (looking at Britton/Miller).

Cards rotation 1-4 is set in stone with Martinez/Mikolas/Flaherty/Wacha and then a battle for the 5th spot between Hudson/Gomber/Reyes/Wainwright/Poncedeleon.

I’d rather Reyes stay in the bullpen for a year after all the injuries he’s had. The same way Morris did after he had arm problems. And then came back in the rotation and dominated for a few years. Wainwright has nothing left. He’ll probably be in the bullpen too. So I think one of the other guys grabs the last spot. Preferably Gomber since he’s one of the few lefty starters in the system. I’d be fine with Hudson too.

Wainwright is for sure competing for the 5th spot they already confirmed that when they signed him and all the incentives are starter based. Whether he gets it or not is another story.

Was reported tonight that the Cards have been in talks with Britton in the last 24 hours but nothing imminent.

I love Wainwright, but he’s been bad for 3 years now. I’d be very surprised if he sticks in the rotation. Perez is another LH reliever taking a look at. And would be a lot cheaper than Britton.

Unless he absolutely sucks in spring training I expect them to give him the 5th spot early on until he loses it, assuming he would.

Only way that doesn't happen is if he has a horrible spring and/or someone like Hudson tears it up and makes the decision for them (best scenario).

Sadly that seems like a recurring storyline every offseason

Idk what it's like in Venezuela but I thought I was about to be killed at any moment on Costa Rica's highways. Rules of the road are really more of an inconvenient suggestion there.

Yeah I’ve read articles in the past about how incredibly dangerous it is in the DR (I’m assuming it applies for any Latin America country) and that driving under the influence is a huge problem. Combine that with less than desirable roads and this is what you end up with

That is happening way too much there. I wish there was something their government would do about it.

Nats owner basically confirming they are out on Harper.

quote:

“Well, when we met with them and we gave them the offer, we told them, ‘This is the best we can do.’ . . . If he chooses to go some place else, I totally understand it, but we put one heck of an offer out there . . . If he comes back [to negotiate with Washington], it’s a strong possibility that we won’t be able to make it work. But I really don’t expect him to come back at this point. I think they’ve decided to move on.”

He turned down 10/300. can't blame the Nats for walking away at that point.
