@Feinsand The markets for J.A. Happ and Lance Lynn are emerging - and look eerily similar. According to sources, the Astros, Yankees, Reds, Rangers and Blue Jays are engaged with both pitchers. The Phillies are also interested in Happ, while the White Sox have expressed interest in Lynn

My theory on this is that none of these guys want Sanchez catching them.

Not sure the Nats can get away with a defense-first 2B like DJ.

That's a hell of a defensive team if it happens, but outside of Soto and Rendon I don't see the pop necessary to compete in the division.

This is why I think they might bring Murphy, warts and all in the field, back for a year or two.

Nah we only have JV and Cole right now with prospects/McHugh/Peacock in the back end with McCullers out for the year

I think most are counting on us resigning Morton but if that doesn’t happen who knows what direction we’ll go. Not like he’s the most durable guy either so kinda risky going into season with him as #3

Def have young guys that can get the job done during regular season but when you start to think about innings limits and a potential playoff rotation it gets a little shaky. Good news is we can always address that at trade deadline if need be

What’s the word on Adam Eaton? The little he’s been healthy for y’all he’s been great hasn’t he?

I def see your point though. It’s a big if, but if Washington can find a way into the postseason that is a very tough matchup for the rest of the NL having to go against their rotation in a series. Kinda similar to the 2015 Mets

Martinez came out today and said he is convinced that Robles is ready to play everyday CF. He's fun as shite to watch.

Oh yeah Robles is for sure the CF. Swaggy little dude that will be a hit with the fans. Taylor the 4th outfielder and as-needed late game replacement for Soto who, uh, aint great on defense. Eaton in right where he scored really well two years ago in WAR.

Like I said, defense should be good. But the bats are lacking IMO. Might be sub-Mets on offense, amazingly.

Kind of why resigning Harper DOES make sense, though it sounds like that ship has sailed. I hate to sell low on Eaton - you could theoretically make him the fourth OF and then move Soto to first in 2020 after Zimmerman (and his contract ) rolls off. Of course you'd be way over the tax, but maybe 90-whatever old Lerner just doesn't GAF.

Rays stadium play is dead.

quote:

Rays owner Stuart Sternberg announced Tuesday the team is abandoning plans for a new stadium, although he said he's committed to keeping the team in the Tampa area. "I'm firmly committed to helping the Rays remain and thrive in Tampa Bay for decades and generations to come," Sternberg said in a media conference at the winter meetings in Las Vegas, NV. "This is not the announcement I expected to make, yet it's a very promising time for our franchise."

Jon Heyman
@JonHeyman
Impression from a rival about the Dodgers: “Any of their guys are in play except Buehler and Bellinger.” (My add: we’ll assume Kershaw, Turner, Seager and Jansen probably aren’t going anywhere either).

The Dodgers expect to hire Chase Utley to a baseball operations job, but they have not yet done so. As you may have read, he is here in Las Vegas.

Unlikely.

Now a reported sleeper west coast team in on Harper, sounds like Padres.
