@jonmorosi: Sources: #Padres, #Indians having discussions about possible Corey Kluber trade. MLB-level players (one or more of Margot, Renfroe, Hedges) could be key to deal.

@jonmorosi: Key question in Corey Kluber talks: Do #Indians prefer Manuel Margot, 24, from #Padres or Alex Verdugo, 22, from #Dodgers? If Cleveland trades its ace, the front office would like to address center field in the process. @MLBNetwork @MLB

According to

, the #Dodgers are getting closer to land Bryce Harper. They're on the "20 to 10 yard line."

Jon Heyman thinks the Cubs are more likely than the Dodgers.

quote:

“at this point I think it might be more likely it would be the Cubs that would look at Harper” and noted the Dodgers were looking at other pieces like catcher J.T. Realmuto

We're not close to a resolution IMO

Either way, it seems like it's down to the Cubs and Dodgers while both Harper and Machado are supposedly telling the Phillies "Nah, we're good."

I got a chuckle at your comment last week about how many times the Dodgers have traded Kemp. The Dodgers signed him to that 8 year $160 million contract and have since bounced him around and loaned him out to other teams ever since.

Its somewhat poetic that they're again dumping Kemps contract in a likely effort to sign another outfielder to an even bigger contract.

There's no doubt that Harper is better than Kemp but there's some similarities in their ages at contract time, some levels of production and perception as top players in the game. But maybe there won't be Kemp-level regret on a 10 year $300 million contract.

Big problem with those contracts is that you're paying for what they've done...not what they're going to do. Pujols is a prime example of that. The Angels paid for what Pujols did all those years with the Cardinals and got a player that was nothing near that level. Harper of course is younger and still in his prime though where Pujols was on the downhill side of things.

Maybe I missed it here, but word last week was that cubs asked Harper for more time to clear payroll and that he not accept anything before coming back to them...

Just ran into Scott Boras at Houston airport as we were each headed to different gates. Asked if he was switching planes or was in town. He gave a very cryptic answer insinuating he was IN Houston. Hmmmm, Bryce to the Astros?

We coming WCA.

Free agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is in agreement on a deal with the New York Yankees pending a physical, league sources tell ESPN. Tulowitzki is expected to join the Yankees on a league-minimum deal, with the Toronto Blue Jays paying the remainder of his $20 million salary.

the Chicago White Sox, who along with the Philadelphia Phillies are the only teams to publicly express interest in both players, have formally offered Machado a long-term contract proposal, four persons with direct knowledge of the offer told USA TODAY Sports. They spoke only on the condition of anonymity since they are in the middle of negotiations.

It’s characterized as a serious offer, likely closer to $200 million than $300 million, but not enough to sway Machado to board a flight from Miami to Chicago for a press conference
quote:

If Machado had his wish, and the offers were relatively close, friends believe he’d choose the New York Yankees, his favorite team growing up.

If Harper had his choice, with the offers being close, friends believe he’d pick the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers may have interest, but haven’t publicly declared they will even make a short-term offer.
quote:

If it’s solely about the money with Harper and Machado, it may be between the Phillies and White Sox, with the Phillies prepared to spend “stupid’’ money, in the words of owner John Middleton.

No mention of David Robertson signing with the Phillies (2 years 23 million) seems like the relief market is thinning.

Nationals reportedly offered Bryce more than 300 million and the White Sox have made an official offer to Machado.
