They aren’t going to package them and dumb down the return for Goldschmidt

Sources: #Yankees, #Athletics have had contact about a deal that would send Sonny Gray back to Oakland, but there is no present momentum in talks. Oakland is looking for pitching and clearly comfortable bringing back former A’s (Cahill, Anderson, et al).

There’s not a lot of other options left if you aren’t going to shell out $350M for Harper or Machado. Maybe call White Sox and swing a deal or Abreu. Greinke still had a 4.8 WAR last year.

Someone on The Athletic proposed it. It’s not that unthinkable if they want to move Greinke as bad as Nightengale says they do.

I don't trust a pitcher who is 35 already and owed 90+ million over the next 3 years.

Can confirm Mariners and Yankees are in process of finalizing a deal that will send James Paxton to NY for three prospects, including top-rated RH Justus Sheffield.

Be interesting to see what else besides Sheffield. I would think one other is a well known prospect otherwise seems a little light

garcia? seems like people think he can be a great reliever

Per sources, Mariners getting Yankees’ No. 1 prospect, LH Justus Sheffield, plus No. 22 prospect RH Erik Swanson and OF Dom Thompson-Williams in exchange for Paxton, who has 2 years of arbitration control left and is a big-time stud when healthy.

Hopefully he stays healthy

Yeah definitely seems light

Still better than what the Astros gave up for Cole

Now time to send Gray to Cincy

I really like the trade for the Yankees and I’m wondering if the Yankees will still try to sign Corbin. I thought the Mariners might get a little bit of a better package but it didn’t look like a lot of teams were interested in Paxton.

I'm concerned how he does in Yankee Stadium and hopefully he can make 30 starts. He has only made 20+ twice in his career

I disagree
Cole probably had more value though

Mariners won this trade just based on Paxton's health history
Posted on 11/19/18 at 5:15 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Musgrove, Moran, Martin, and Feliz. Moran was what 9th or 10th on prospect list and 25? Martin was 20th? Feliz and Musgrove were failed starters moved to bullpen.
Cole is younger and had proven more than what Paxton has so far. Paxton hasn't stayed healthy at all.

Source: #Yankees remain interested in free agents Patrick Corbin and J.A. Happ, following the James Paxton deal. Yankees are placing a higher priority on adding one more starting pitcher than signing Manny Machado or Bryce Harper. @MLB @MLBNetwork
