It's true. Wherever there is a NFL team, they are the #1 sports attraction. even in the south. Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans. Everywhere.
But many, not most will just not hear that. They will say there are some very special places where that would never happen, even in the South.
ANother example- The Titans are more popular than the Vols and by far.

In Nashville, doubt they are in Knoxville.

In the state of Tennessee. CF fans are cocentrated. NFL is further reaching. If the Titans set up camp in Knox, they'd take over.

So we have a consensus- the NFL is more popular, followed by more, and watched by more. They probbaly sell more merchandise than all the Viv I collages. Definitely way way more than the top 32 teams in the NCAA and probably way way more than the top 64 combined.

I also have a feeling that if you polled a large same and asked them questions such as which do you prefer, which do you like better etc., the majority would say college. But their viewing habits and true interests would favor the NFL. Certainly no one here though.

Move the Dolphins to gainsville and the same would happen.
No way. The Dolphins have trouble selling out a smaller stadium in Miami. The Gators consistently sell out a huge stadium, even against awful teams. The Gators would dominate there forever.

I think there are WAY more casual NFL fans than college, (so it's all around more popular) but more passionate fans in college.

quote:This is probably true. In a lot of ways it's easier to be a casual fan of the NFL - there are only 32 teams to follow, and you don't have to learn whole new rosters every four years. If Graham Harrell were allowed to stay at Texas Tech for fifteen years he'd be as well known as Brett Favre. It's hard to be a casual NCAA fan and retain a working knowledge of all 120 teams (or even of all of the BCS conference teams).

Yeah, I heard the Steelers have seasons tickets sold out through something like 2026.
Last time i checked there was a 104 year waiting list for the GB packers.

NFL is so much more popular.
quote:
It says here how 222 million citizens, nearly three of every four Americans, watched pro football on television last season. More women watched the Super Bowl than the Academy Awards. The ratings for the playoffs — not the Super Bowl, just the playoffs — doubled the World Series and tripled the NBA Finals.
It says here that of 256 regular season games last season, only seven did not sell out in time to waive the blackout rule.
Even the famous just love the NFL. Did you know that Nelson Mandela's favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys?

I lived in Knoxville area for 5 yrs and the Colts/Peyton got waaaaay more press than the Titans, as well as Pat Summitt and NASCAR.

How much money is wagered on NFL games each year?
How much on College?

UGA

I really don't think the Falcons are more popular than UGA, at least not the last few seasons. I never see anyone with any Falcons stuff. I can't get away from UGA shite

I would agree. Some college fan bases are much more passionate.

Are you talking about in Atlanta? or in the rest of Georgia?
Posted on 11/26/08 at 1:22 am to MJRuffalo
When did it become city specific? I think Georgia Bulldogs are by far more popular in their own state than the Atlanta Falcons.
As far as the Titans, no way they are more popular than the Vols in the state of Tennessee.
Now as far as popularity, they are more regional, due to the lack of other NFL teams around and close by. And with the exception of a couple of NFL teams, no way does NFL teams have more rabid fan bases than at least a dozen college teams out there.

Gotta give the NFL credit since their popularity has grown significantly without having a franchise in Los Angeles.
