quote:ali became rich and famous, changed religions freely, and said whatever he wanted because he was an american. not saying his childhood was all dandy, but he was very fortunate to have been born in america in. no vietnamese ever treated him poorly because they never had a chance to. they would have done much worse.
[quote]You are talking about a guy who spent most of his formative years not being allowed to piss in the same trough as a white man and likely both lived through and watched those he loved go through unspeakable things...and your argument is "hey, at least he didn't grow up in some third world country".

quote:
"Shoot them for what?" Ali asked in an interview after he refused induction. "They never called me ****. They never lynched me. They never put dogs on me. They didn't rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father. What do I want to shoot them for, for what? Why do I want to go shoot them, poor little people and babies and children and women? How can I shoot them? Just take me to jail."
love how liberals throw around this quote all the time to justify ali's treason. if ali hated the racism in america so much, he should have moved to vietnam or wherever. i'm sure he would have had the same opportunities to become rich and famous, say whatever's on his mind, follow whatever religion he wanted, and be treated the same as the locals despite his skin color.
lol ... so blacks should've just stfu and moved since they didn't appreciate their position in america? ... and they were ungrateful if they didn't want to go get shot at ... bet you've posted that little pic of your bushie boy in his guard uni while complaining that obama never served ...
necks gonna neck ...

What else would you expect from a draft dodging Muslim who hated America?
Anyone want to guess how many people dropping the "draft dodger" card are Trumpkins?
50%, 75%
Just want to know how many aren't just morons but hypocritical morons.
seriously? ... 100 % of them are trumpettes ...

Damn, he was my dad's all-time favorite athlete.
Think I'm going to call him today
RIP.

I mean, I'm not even a fan of boxing or of Ali's political stances or religion. Don't have to be to tip my cap to an American sporting legend. Hell "legendary," is probably a huge understatement for his impact on the sports landscape.
Some folks are way too ate up with the haterade these days when it comes to any/everything

I just love the massive tributes and posts and tweets from 13-18 year old kids that pretend he was such an influence in their life because they want to be a part of the pop culture loop of the day. I'm 23 and he has had no real direct influence In my life so i don't feel inclined to write him a fanboy obituary so everyone can see that I care. No disrespect toward MA, but he's been in terrible health since probably before I was born, I hate the post death bandwagoning that people do.

I agree with this... I lived through it... I kow I say that young people who weren't alive when a crtain thing happened are often wrong... This IS the pefect case for it... ALI was a legend beyond bounds..... In the Ring and out....... People who were not alive during this will NEVER appreciate what it was like...Boxing was HUGE back then. I mean HUGE... He was a big factor in this...... And as a sports figure in general he was Tiger Woods before Tiger Woods but on a MUCH MUCH larger scale....... He will be on the SI cover for the 40th time this week... Just think about that......

So if the government starts suppressing free speech, should we move to Russia since they are much more oppressive before we can show our outrage?
If the government starts taking guns, should we move to Australia first before showing any outrage?

The other side of this coin is if you DIDN'T see such tributes, people like you would chalk it up to this generation being out of touch or some such nonsense

I'm only 27 myself, and didn't do anything elaborate. Not going to shite on those who express more eloquently, though.

Maybe you're right. Maybe not. Maybe this will end every a-hole in the bar playing Purple Rain 5 times a night on the jukebox
