MJ played on some of the greatest teams ever, even without MJ
It's funny how at first, the MSB kids will say the 90's weren't as good, today's players have evolved so much, those players couldn't play in this era blah blah blah. Then they turn around and say MJ played with the greatest teams ever...so which is it guys??

They were just arguing last year that the Heat were better than the 96 Bulls

This is changing the narrative to fit your beliefs. Jordan played on what were some of the best teams in the history of the NBA statistically. That is in no way indicative of the era he played in. The comparison doesn't work because today's players have higher demands due to advances in medicine, therapy, and training.

For Lebron I would say he has played 4 finals with a worse cast and 2 with better
Wait, what? You mean 2 worse and 4 better, right? The 4 Finals with the Super Team disagree with your statement. 2007 Cavs were shite. This team has Kyrie and Love among others. The injuries suck but let's quit with the "poor James has such a bad team" argument.

my beliefs?? I'm only saying what posters say on here all the time. Unless you're going to argue that no ones ever said that and I'm just making it up
I don't have a dog in this fight, I've let it be known on here that I'm a huge Lebron fan. I just find the excuses by many on here to be hilarious.

You know these two statements are not mutually exclusive right?

I'd say it's 3-3 for lebrons cast vs their opponent. They should have won against dallas. The Spurs were straight up better then last years heat.
Wade and bosh sucked in last years playoffs and were fricking TERRIBLE in the finals.
Also lol at people continuing to include kevin love as part of this Cavs playoff roster

It's what sports fans do when they already picked a side. They will change narratives to fit their argument whenever they have to. That goes for both the MJ and LBJ fans. And that's the beauty of sports. We will be able to discuss it forever without ever have a 100% factual answer so no one is ever wrong

This was my point more than it being an actual attack. I mean the idea that because people believe it'd be tough for those older teams would struggle against players today are more evolved as athletes doesn't mean that Jordan didn't play on some of the best teams in the history of the league. It means today's athletes would have an edge in fitness and maybe basketball IQ overall due to technology making watching film and whatnot easier. Jordan's Bulls would still be a force to reckon with in any era. The entire league from the Jordan era from top to bottom wouldn't compete with today's era.

Yea, comparing different eras by just plugging teams or players in to a different time isn't very smart. Sure the players 20 years ago weren't as athletic as today, but if those same players were born 20 years later then they would have the same advantages as the athlete today so it really doesn't matter. All you can do is compare teams and players against the time period they played in and base it off of that

quote:You don't think Lebron makes his teammates better at a rate at least somewhere near MJ? Or better put, you think the difference between how much MJ and Lebron have to do with making teammates better is the difference between 1 supporting cast being top notch and the other being bottom tier for Finals teams?
Why do you think MJs finals teams were so good? Did he not have a ton to do with that?
You lost me there.

the data is based on performance which means performance against the actual teams played against
so that takes difference in league era into account and doesn't compare that difference

Wade's high score in the Finals was 25, Lebron scored 26 or more in every game.
