Until someone offers Monroe a max deal and they either match or trade him.

Are you really in here arguing that Jodie Meeks is worth $6.3M per year?

Jodie Meeks is not worth that at all.

Well, you didn't refute it in any meaningful way either. I'm still waiting.
What I am "arguing" is a player who averaged 16 points per game, shot 46%, 40% from 3pt, had the #5 TS% among SGs and plays decent defense is worth a league average salary. Combine that with the fact Detroit needs to overpay to attract a FA to begin with and and the overabundance of cap space available league-wide and you get a marginally above average contract...which, by the way, wouldn't even put him in the top 100 in player salary in 13/14.
Now, if you have something other than an emoticon in response, I'm all ears.

So basically they've wiped out all of their cap room, unless they can dump Josh Smith and/or they sign and trade Monroe. Sounds like a shitty situation to put yourself in, for Jodie fricking Meeks.
if they only had like $6M in cap room, they were pretty much fricked anyway and getting to the cap as soon as possible is the best thing for them
meeks got a "contract year" bump that may not be worth it, but he's certainly a 3-5M/year guy without question
drop-dead shooters are valuable as frick in today's NBA and he showed last year he can be a volume shooter/scorer

You can say whatever you want about Meeks' counting stats/efficiency, but guards in D'Antoni's system have not matched that level of play elsewhere historically.

even on a shitty Lakers team this year, he proved he could fill it up QUICK. more power to him.

He had a career year on a run and gun, no defense team coached by MDA. Go look at his stats from the previous 4 years before 13-14. He brings absolutely nothing else to the table besides jump shooting. Meeks can't even create his own shot. He will not come close to those numbers in Detroit, bank on that.
Btw, I'm a Lakers fan and I've seen this guy play a lot in the past 2 season. I would've been mad as frick if LA brought him back for 3yrs/$19M, even with all of our cap space.

and if he got a contract based off his stats from that year, he'd be approaching $10M/year

at $6M/per, he's not being paid to

washington is pretty much setting themselves up to be like 2-4 every year in the east and never threatening a title

Detroit is paying Brandon Jennings 8mil/yr.
A PG that averages 15 fga per game for his CAREER and only makes 39.0% of them (14.2 attempts last year shooting 37.3%).
They need someone to shoot, and even if Jodie Meeks plays his career average, it is still better than letting Jennings shoot the ball.

You're probably right. I'm being picky, Meeks is a MLE player IMO, which is only slightly less than he's being paid

and that difference doesn't really matter b/c what were they going to do with $1M in cap room?

Well that isn't the best mindset to have in regards to free agency.
Posted on 7/1/14 at 7:35 pm to Epic Cajun
Sure it is, only if you're using that mindset for one player and not the whole team
