you laughed at someone saying the enforcement may be better this way
I laugh because Mike Slive isnt going to repremand Alabama when they are in position to win a National Championship.

Anything to give the NCAA less power is a good thing, IMO.
I agree, but IMO, youve taken the power from the NCAA and given it to 5 seperate NCAAs.

But why? In what ways?
See above.

the power 5 should introduce relegation into cfb. It would keep the conferences from getting stale and dead programs like the vols would get the boot

I agree with this.

and then we can figure out something more fair to all the schools.
and by fair, you mean a way to continue to get payed by the big 5
I'd rather see ULL, Tulane, and La. Tech compete for their own national championship at their appropriate level of competition.

That would be awesome

every 2 years the top 5 of the non power conferences plays the bottom team from each power conference to decide if relegation happens.

This is a very bad thing IMO. Who is the governing body? Do the conferences police themselves? The NCAA was already rather spineless when it came to publishing cheaters. Why? Because it doesn't benefit them to hammer the money makers. Now the ones with the power will be even more influenced by money. Will Mike Slive hammer Alabama for cheating when they're in a position to win the national championship and bring in millions to the conference? Hell no. Integrity has gone out the window in favor of the dollar. The schools with the most money are the real winners today. USC, Ohio State, Bama, Texas

For CFB as a whole, I'm not sure this is that big of a deal. Playing Big 5 schools every week will be just as enticing.
no it wont
now instead of people bitching about playing a G5 school they will bitch about playing a Miss State that has gone from a consistent 6-8 wins to 2-4 b/c potential pool of opponents is much smaller.
In fact, this will probably wipe out a lot of the mid tier P5 schools in the long run.
Now instead of having mostly solid records w/the occasional break through years they are going to be kept squarely at the bottom of the pile. This will cause enthusiasm to wane and eventually the big boys of the P5 will start saying the same shite about them that they say about the G5.

I think people are just thinking about football with regard to all of this. Our beloved March Madness and NCAA baseball tournaments as we know them are gone.

Would the Big 5 conferences ever vote to allow players to make money from their own likeness?
IMO, this is one of the biggest travestys in college athletics. Allowing athletes to make $ in a free market would cover the universities from having to give equal stipends across the board in all sports

Isnt a basic nature of Amateur sports the idea of the "little guy" at least, as little as it may be, having a shot? This now makes that 100% impossible.
Well from the "big guy" perspective, why should they give a damn about helping the little guy out? They have nothing to gain from it.

This is terrible for College Athletics.
But it was inevitable.

quote:I'm not certain of this. They'll play tougher competition, but those fringe guys good enough to play for Miss. St but bailed for more playing time at smaller schools, more of thsoe guys will go back to MSU now, so in theory, the bottom of the Power 5 will get better as well. So, while they may not be as good as the top 10s of the world, some of these games should be much more competitive, again, in theory.

quote:Aren't we just finding out who they really are now, which is better? What good is Miss St going 8-4 with 4 wins over small, crap schools? It's just smoke and mirrors. Now we will know how good they really are if they can or can't keep up.

that isnt the point
if you turn the mid and bottom tier P5 schools into a permanent lower class (which I'm sorry, will absolutely happen) their fan bases will dry up. Many P5 schools are already having attendance issues as it is. This will only make it worse b/c its far harder to sell Joe Blow tickets to a consistent 4 game winner than a consistent 8 game winner.
Getting yourself out of the dregs is going to be that much harder now b/c you'll be stuck in the death spiral of losses and waning fan interest.

Not if they win.
they wont. they just dont realize it yet.
no more g5s = far less chance to rehab the program w/OOC wins.

We are headed towards this anyway. All of these multi million dollar additions and renovations will be useless.

While attendance is declining, most expansions are for adding high priced tickets like suites. The demand is still very much there.
