You get a top 3 pick and a top 5 center back in return ( only 22 years old). You couple those with getting rid of your worst contract on the team and two young guys who performed temremendous for you

plus we still HAVE a point in DC

now we can fill out center and the 3, where we are weak

DC
thornton
turner (pray)
west/okafor
lopez/okafor

that's a versatile lineup that mixes shooters (MT, West) with post men (Lopez/Okafor) and drivers (DC, turner)

not to mention youth with veteran leadership in Posey, West and Peja.

And now your 11 overall. You can go wing or go big. And have the patience and time for them to develop.

only cause he and Thibodeau got into an argument. The basketball operations wanted Thibs and didn't care what CP3 wanted until Tom turned them down.

plus with CP3's salary off the books, peja/mopete's contracts can go a number of ways

1. could be used to get another swingman for MT to come off the bench

2. they could be packaged with west for a flawed star like amare

3. could just expire and we'd have a little cap room possibly

But for a couple months I have been on the bandwagon of trading CP3, but ONLY to the Nets makes sense to me. And ONLY if Turner falls to 3 overall
A deal of CP3, Emeka for #3 overall ( Turner essentially) and Brook Lopez.

I know many disagree with me, but I STRONGLY believe the Hornets just do not have the resources to be able to put a supporting cast around CP3 to keep him happy enough to stay. And they basically have to do this in the next 2 years to keep him. I just don't see it happening. It's time to start over IMO.

DC, Turner, Peja, West, Lopez...Thornton, #11 overall. That team is young and still has two viable trade options to still improve the team. Plus you could keep Peja and West strictly for leadership purposes ( which is what I'd do ).

I normally shoot down cp3 trade talk. But this is legit.

#3 and Lopez is good value for CP3, but I don't see how Turner falls to #3. He's been the solid #2 for quite a while and I haven't seen Favors/Cousins/Johnson really rise any. If anything Cousins has slipped and Johnson is possibly behind Aminu and maybe even Monroe depending on which direction teams go.

IF they took on a bad contract like Emeka, Turner fell to 3, and we got another young player in return, it would be legit.

well if the nets wanted CP3 SOELY for the reason of adding a type A and a type B free agent, then they'd have to trade New Orleans their 2nd 1st round pick as well (27overall). So there is your other young player that you want.

I think the thing about this trade if it does move beyond idle speculation, is New Jersey would be coming to us, so we'd have some pricing power, especially if the new owner has already let it slip that he wants CP3. Chris Paul could end up being our Hershel Walker, someone make it happen

CP3 wont be traded.

But if he were to be traded to the Nets, the package would have to look like this:

Paul, Posey, Okafor

for

#3, Lopez

The Nets would have to be willing to give up #3, Lopez, and 30 million in cap space. This would allow the Hornets to target another FA like Rudy Gay for about 12-13 million while still keeping all of our expiring contracts.

Hornets:
Collison/Thornton
Turner/Thornton
Gay/Peja
West/Songaila
Lopez/#11

Anything less is unnacceptable from New Orleans.

Where is this Turner at #3 speculation coming from? I haven't seen anything even remotely hinting at him not being a lock for #2.

I mean it's not like NJ has all these pieces to trade.

They have two first rd picks (3 and 27) Yi Jianlian, TWill, Lee, Lopez, Harris and Dooling. And that's it. CDR has a team option.

I don't know what else you could get out of them. They can't trade Lee and Twill as they need depth and a starter.

MAX I think we can get out of them is Lopez,3overall, 27 overall. And maybe their 2011 first rounder...

Of course, the issue is that Turner most likely won't be there at 3.

So do you do those deals for Cousins/Favors/Johnson at 3 etc?

I think the point of the Nets trading for CP3 is that they would want to keep Lopez and cap room. Can't see it ever happening.

they could literally sign any free agent they'd want at a max deal. And still pull off a sign and trade for a player making just below max money at 13 million his first year. Then the MLE.

They could sign Rudy Gay, sign and trade for Chris Bosh using Harris and Dooling, then sign Jermaine O'Neal to the MLE.

CP3
Lee
Gay
Bosh
O'Neal

I meant if they took on Emeka and/or Posey, which would be a starting point for any deal, along with 3 and Lopez, in my mind.
