last time I checked. You have to have 7 years of NBA services to have a no trade clause in your contract.

the hornets arnet trading CP3 unless he forces their hand.

meaning he would be unhappy in his current situation, and would likely be traded to a worse situation

Well it doesn't matter where he wants to be traded.

If the Hornets don't think CP will re-sign in 2 years, then they trade him for the best possible deal, and he's the other teams problem.

A team like the Nets will be in a massive market, a super rich owner, good contract situation, and could sign a legit player like Bosh to pair with CP3.

And I'm talking about if the Hornets wanted to trade him NOW. Next offseason, his value is lower.

But I'm against trading him personally unless they get some amazing deal.

he has 3 years left on his deal, he's signed through 12-13'

like i said, unless he forces their hand, they more than likely wont trade him. It just doesnt make sense. He is the cash cow

He has 2 years. 3rd year is a Player Option, which he obviously wouldn't pick up.

you obviously didn't read anything in the thread. Just jumped in and made assumptions. I'm not going to do it again but I put out many examples in this thread in what type of players the Nets could surround CP3 with ...go back and take a look.

so you think he would be enticed being traded to a team with a starting lineup that would look like:

This trade scenario is dependent on CP3 helping NJ land a top FA like LeBron or Bosh. It doesn't work without that because the Hornets have to get Lopez + #3 at a minimum for it to work for them, and if the Nets lose Lopez and the #3 they have to be getting a superstar they wouldn't otherwise be getting in return.

I'd honestly would go to more games with DC/MT/Turner/West/Lopez than I would with CP3 and the pussies he has with him right now.

Agree with you ThrillHo

CP3 and Okafor (maybe Posey)
for
#3 and Lopez

How are you sure? Everyone is opting out now so they can sign under this CBA. Owners are intent on slashing maximum deals and may do so by up to 60%. When I see him turn down 18 million to play for 12, I'll believe it.

Well, obviously everything depends on the CBA.

courtney lee
douglas roberts
Yi
josh boone

with Devin Harris coming off the bench i guess??

well

they are likely going to sign a top-level FA

and they will spend on the MLE every year they're over the cap

and i'm sure their arena/lockerroom is going to be ballin

i dont understand where anyone in this thread that says we dont have the resources to put a cast around CP is coming from...isn't our owner fricking rich? couldn't we just pay the luxury tax?

i still say winning trumps all

unless we hit another 500 ft home run with our draft, we're simply not a good team and no threat to win a title

we're also pretty fricked longterm unless our new owner wants to deal peja/mopete for a very expensive guy like deng

you can't just spend money when you're over the cap

you can try using the MLE, but that's very hit or miss

otherwise you have to trade salary for salary

if we don't deal peja/mopete, we're FUUUUUCKED (unless the new CBA drastically changes everything)

Yeah he can play the luxury tax, presumably, but the only way to sign players would be the MLE (we signed MoPete and Posey for the MLE, so that's and indication) and Sign and Trades.

So we have no flexibility even with a rich owner. What they would have to do is find ways to get rid of dead weight. Then its a possibility.

In theory, the new CBA could change everything. It could give teams a one time exemption to cut a current player's salary if they are 3 years into the contract, and then cap guaranteed money in contracts to 3 years, etc.

That would be huge for the Hornets. I don't know if we could be so lucky though.

I'm not disagreeing that HH believes that Paul will leave or that he has been right on quite a few things regarding the Hornets. But to project what a player will want to do in 2 years is ridiculous.

Three years ago, Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce both publicly asked to be traded. Now they are the two happiest players in the league. Two years is a lifetime in the NBA and these finals prove it.

who would we cut? okafor?

i doubt the cap is raised significantly, so we'd still be pretty close to it
