The best fix to make the XP more exciting is to require the kicker to also be a position player.

I'm surprised no one ever brings up having an automated goal post that retracts and gives kickers a smaller target for extra points.

Just get rid of the stupid PAT as a kick. Its so obvious and simple.
Score a TD and get automatically get 7, or go for the 2pt attempt and end with either 8 or 6.
