Honestly if he leads Goodson there’s no guarantee one of the two defenders hanging around there don’t blow up the play.

That’s the expectation for a quality pass now? Just get near them?

We see that play all the time. The WR/TE/RB catches the pass while running towards the sideline and then turns up and reaches out for the first down/touchdown.
I think the RB ran a poor route and turned up field too soon.

You should.
Throwing a pass that forced the receiver to perform a 180 in the opposite direction they are running is on the QB.

It was the best place for that ball to have a chance to get caught thanks to the fricked up route he ran. Minshew probably could’ve put a bit more touch on it but it hit him in the hands. Go ask any coach in America whose fault it is for a drop when the ball hits the receivers hands (with very few exceptions).

Will Anderson Jr forced Minshew into that passing lane

You have no idea if the route was fricked up or not.
The best place for the ball was a couple of feet up the field from where it was.

Well, we do. It was a flat route.

As mentioned by rb10. No running back is cutting up that early on that play. If that’s what the colts called then it was a shite call but I highly doubt it considering the facts that it was a 3rd stringer that had zero business being on the field there.

Ah. Didn’t realize you were in on the play call. My bad. Carry on.

It’s not really difficult to tell by the way the play was run. It’s a pretty common play and route.

A foot or two downfield wouldn’t have made a difference with the defense.

Yep. All ran the same way. Doesn’t matter how far the outside receiver makes it up the field. If he’s hung up, just run into him.

From the last replay I saw it looked like the inside db was starting to break in. I’m not saying it would’ve been directly defended/picked off but it would’ve increased the odds of him getting blown up and the pass being dropped that way.
And I may have saw it wrong idk I only saw it once from what they showed right after the play happened.

The Colts receiver was 5 yards past the LoS. Both defenders were running with him.
The RB runs the route correctly he makes the catch and turns up field with no one within 5 yards of him. He kept drifting up field and turned the wrong way.
ETA: As someone else said, Will Anderson also got into the passing lane, and Minshew put the ball where he could. Maybe the RB saw all the space ahead of him and thought Minshew was going to lead him into it too.
I’ve watched the replay a few times now. It should have been an easy 5+ yard gain.
