Holmgren left GB because he was tired of the cold and because they blew that SB to Elway....

Packers would have repeated in '97...but the Niners could have won that game two weeks before

...tired of the cold but then went to Seattle? No, he wanted more say in the players they were drafting but butted heads with Ron Wolf.

I have nearly erased that game from my memory but the Packers seemingly had no answer for Terrell Davis.

Packers were too cocky.

LeRoy Butler, etc. thought the Packers were the next Cowboys, a dynasty.

1 title out of the Favre era.

Packers' Front Office fricked both

Holmgren actually left because they wouldn't give him full control over personnel decisions, so he went and found a team, Seattle, that would. If he'd waited two more years upon Ron Wolf's retirement he'd been put in full charge at Green Bay. Instead that went to Mike Sherman. Neither Holmgren or Sherman proved to be good at personnel decisions.

At least Holmgren got his squad to the Super Bowl where they got screwed mightily by shoddy refereeing.

Yes he did and he deserved to win them. My point is that the defense gets overlooked and that era is perceived as all Favre. Replace Favre with darn near any above average to good QB from the mid 90’s and they would’ve been right there. They scored 4 return touchdowns and gave up the fewest points per game (13.1) in ‘96.
