(No excuses but the snowing conditions sucked for a visiting team who could not change uniforms at halftime or water down the visiting side pre-game)
uh.. yes they could have changed.. and PBS did not change.. and nobody watered down anything...
last i recalled it was snowing on both sides and actually a little more standing water on the PBS side.
the EDW kids looked like they did not even want to be there....

I don't think it matters but as I recall the field drained to visit side. As it should. By the way fid y'all install some cement with that turf? I walked through 4 in water to take a leak.

West Monroe going to get skullfricked by jesuit's stable of backs. Rebels are going to get their asses drug up and down the field.
I will say Jesuit does find ways to stay close in games against teams I thought were much better than them and ended up winning most of them.

My picks to win it all from the start:
5A: Dutchtown
4A: Franklinton
3A: Redemptorist
2A: John Curtis
1A: South Paquemines
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow...North LA goes from 4 out of 5 last year to NONE this year? Really?
This is such a stupid debate. I don't know why the north schools think they get "no love". Get over it. Just like the public school private school debate.
5A is wide open and I would probably pick West Monroe second time around.
4A Haughton has a shot and so does Bastrop. Neville may win one more but Karr puts them down.
3A All that is left from the north is Carrol
2A Curtis and Evangel is the class with SCC and Calvary Baptist a step behind. That game is a toss up
1A That's South Plaquemines. I don't care who else is there.

(24)Westgate @ (1)Dutchtown- Westgate pulls off yet another upset against an overrated higher seed. no surprise here.
How is Dutchtown overrated? They are undefeated and deserve their ranking.

I didn't find Dutchtown's defense to be overly intimidating. They can be beat; of course Brother Martin had Dante Butler who had 203 yards against them, which may help create that impression in my mind.
Their offensive line is another story entirely. They are very big, and create huge chasms for the RB and QB to run through. BM's defensive line had a good year, but were handled by the DTown OL. Thus they score quickly. IF their opponents can even slow them for a few plays, it's a close game.

Dutchtown fans are the ONLY ones in the state who think they are the #1 team in 5A. Hell, most would put them 4th AT BEST in the teams left, maybe 5th. West Monroe, STM, and Acadiana are all considered better.

6-5 West Jeff lost to Dtown 42-35, not exactly a dominant performance.
Parkview Baptist really was their most impressive win IMHO, and they are a 3-A school, and only won 10-3
St John, a 5-5 1-A school (what 5-A school plays a 1-A school, WTF?) lost only by 20 points (34-14), whenever any of the teams JJ mentioned could have probably hung 100 on them. White Castle, the 16th seed in 1-A, beat them by more points.
Hahnville could have easily beaten Dutchtown, lost 13-10. Hahnville was good, but not nearly one of the top teams.
The same East St John team i saw get waxed by 50 points probably should have beaten dutchtown.
And covington came pretty damn close to being the first 32 seed to beat a #1 seed in the first round, that alone should tell you all you need to know.
Now that i got that out of the way, what makes you think dutchtown is the #1 team in 5-A?

that did happen once in 3A...

Dutchtown was probably more desrving of 4 seed then a 1. It probably should have been St. Thomas More, West Monroe, St Paul's, and then Dutchtown.
You are down playing Dutchtown's schedule though. They beat Lutcher which despite losing in the playoffs is a tough team anytime you play them.
Dutchtown will beat Westgate with a score of something like 24-17 then might lose to West Monroe but it will be close.

WM's history in the semifinals:
93-WM 34-33 over St. Aug
96-WM 21-14 over Catholic
97-WM 35-7 over Jesuit
98-WM 35-0 over Catholic
99-WM 33-16 over Ruston
00-WM 17-0 over St. Aug
01-WM 41-13 over Acadiana
02-WM 21-7 over Acadiana
03-Evangel 26-15 over WM
04-WM 49-17 over Fountainebleau
05-WM 27-8 over Catholic
08-WM 47-12 over Barbe
09-WM 52-6 over Catholic
Generally the semifinals is West Monroe's best game of the year. Only one loss in school history in the semifinals at Evangel. You never know what's going to happen in sports. Hell the Giants beat the unbeatable Patriots. Just saying that traditionally, WM has been very strong in the semifinals.

It's not so much West Monroe as it is Dutchtown...Dutchtown reminds me of LSU in the fact that every game seems to come down to the end. I just don't see anybody blowing them out. I would love to see the Dutchtown OL and running game vs WM DL. That would be awesome.

I just hope WM is healthy for next week. Hunter and Lathan have been hampered lately.

Nice research JJ, did not realize WM's record in semi's was that solid (although it makes sense, considering their appearances in title games).
Going to be chilly tonight, hope the tailgate has some more of that gumbo!

Going to be a good day. Gotta go to the hospital for a while, but Iron Bowl, a little bit of Oregon, then pick up Slade, and off to the WM game. Finish up with some Boise State afterward...should get great.

pretty much except their power is opp side of the ball. powerful offense w/ a mediocre defense.
i'm a dutchtown homer and don't necessarily think they should've been 1, but they also get a lot of hate on here like they're just miserable. its fine by me, hopefully they prove it on the field.
they play a bend don't break defense and give up a good bit of yards obviously. they've also had a lot of injuries in the inside DL positions and still have at least 2 out. they tend to give up yards and then either get a turnover or make a stop once the opposition gets in scoring position. they outscore their opponents as they did BM. i'm not sure they'll be able to continue to do that past this week, but we'll see.
