I actually think golfers, especially pro-but-not-elite golfers, are more normal than most pro athletes and it's a reason even some of the elite level talents lose some edge with family life and the like.
I think for whatever reason becoming a pro-capable golfer aligns better with normal living - whether that's because of the golf crowd, your peers, the pace of life in pro golf, whatever.

Golf is unbelievably hard and the pros are so much better than anyone at your country club
However, it’s the most overrated of “hard” by the average American for the below:
Your average American is fat, pre diabetic unatheltic slobs on their adulthood. Because of this they can’t even attempt to play football, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, hockey etc
But their fatasses can play golf. And by playing they can see just how fricking pathetic they are compared to pros. So they think that’s by far the hardest sport
If they weren’t so gross and obese they could maybe try the other sports and they would realize they are even more galaxies away from those sports

It’s laughable that you think otherwise
You must be talking about a club pro. There’s no way any rational person believes anyone could make it as a tour pro.

If pro golfers have such mental toughness, why would they kick you out of the gallery if you made noise on the pro’s backswing? They are easily distracted doing an action that they’ve done thousands of times before and should be rote memory.

I think that shite is pretty lame, but missing your strike by 4 mm or delivering the club with 3 degrees of variance affects your shot by about 40 yards

This is one of the most laughable things about golf.
No other relevant sport, professional or otherwise, acts like this except tennis.

Because no other professional athletes need concentration when they are performing at the highest level

There have been plenty of world class athletes who’ve played golf for 25-35 years and aren’t good at it because it’s easily the hardest sport to be elite in. You can be a genetic freak, be lazy and never really understand the game you’re playing yet still be HOF level in that sport. You can’t do that in golf no matter how gifted you are.

Imagine just thinking something as dumb as this

All the golf lovers in here that want to be pros and put their idols on such a high pedestal will tell you you’re wrong but this is absolutely right and they just don’t want to admit it.
Nobody is denying that basketball and football and many other sports have much higher athletic requisites necessary to succeed. That’s clear as day. But that doesn’t mean that you could even come close to Tour level in golf even if you had all the time and money and gear in the world.
If there’s a .000001% chance of making it to the NFL, there’s probably a .00001% chance of making it as a Tour pro. Practically impossible either way

Ironic considering some of your takes ITT.

That .00001% is making as a tour pro for a handful of events. Maybe a year. The number of players who keep that level up long term is even smaller.

A 67 year old is potentially going to make the cut at the masters this year
Which is awesome
Now imagine a 67 year old in football, basketball, etc etc

Willful ignorance is always puzzling but equally amusing to me. Thank you

But there isn’t a pro football or basketball player alive who could make the cut at any age so what’s your point?

My point is is far “easier” to make it pro in golf than football or basketball etc
There is more babies born every year with the potential to be pro in golf than the other sports.
The sheer size and strength required for the other sports removes so many people immediately
