I know it’s a long speech to read, but it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it or read it. Ryno played the game hard and played the game well. He was a great offensive player but when most of us think of Ryno, we think of this:

No one embodied the franchise better than him or Santo. Sandberg was Cubs baseball, Sandberg is Cubs baseball and he will always be Cubs baseball for me and so many other Cubs fans.

Seriously, I love you Ryno. Thank you for the memories, thank you for the handshakes those couple of times. Thanks for the quick home run trots, the double plays, sticking with the Cubs through thick and thin.

I knew he was sick, but didn’t know how bad it really was. Him, Grace, and Dawson were always on WGN at the house growing up. Rip Ryno.

He was a warrior and part of my daily after school routine: Cubs on WGN.

RIP, Ryno. You played the game how it should be played.

So much for “comes in 3’s”

That’s really just a matter of perspective, isn’t it.

Man did I love watching Ryno play the game. He was the game. Embodied all that was good and pure that was left in baseball when he suited up and took the field. Let his game do all the talking and played every play like it was the last out of the World Series. He was my idol. I modeled my batting stance after his, and even my signature today is a rip off of the way Ryno signed baseballs. RIP RYNO

My childhood hero… very sad.

I’ve got every baseball card of his and used to travel to Houston ever summer for Cubs vs Astros to see him

Thank you for the memories,

Cubs teams from the 80’s were fun to watch and pretty competitive. Ryno, Jody Davis, Lee Smith, Andre Dawson were all solid players as I always wanted to win a WS

Watching him and Shawon Dunston at SS, Hawk in CF, Grace in the later years at first was great baseball. Harry and Steve in the booth. I’d get off the bus and run home for 3 to catch the cubs on channel 9. It was religion to me. Man I miss those days. RIP Ryno. You fought hard. Go rest now.

I’ve been following his fight… he had it kicked then a few months later they said they noticed something new.

Had a feeling this day was coming as he went quiet for months on social media. Had one random post a few weeks back apologizing for not being as present as usual at Wrigley.
